Lessons Learned from the Piñata

1 Sam. 16: 7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Some observations made about the Piñata.

1. Great care is taken on the outside appearance. You can find a Piñata in almost any design you want.

A. We tend to dress in different ways or styles depending on what we are doing or where we are going.

B. All too often we draw conclusions about others by the way they are dressed.
The way they look
The way we act

2. The outside appearance is secondary to what is inside.

Often we stereotype people by the way we they dress – but it is what is on the inside that really matters.

3. People will take shots at the Piñata in order to see what’s on the inside of it!

A. As a Christian, people will take shots at you to see what you are made of! (To see if you are real)

Isaiah 29: 13 The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.

4. Once the Piñata is hit cracks form and it becomes compromised. (vulnerable)

5. Take care what you put into the piñata, it will be what eventually will come out!
What goes in comes out…good or bad!
Candy in and candy out -- junk in and junk out

What are you filled with?

The WORD OF GOD ?
Jesus was tempted in the dessert and spoke the word! Matt 4:1-11

Filled with the Spirit (Baptized)?
Acts 1: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 2: 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Filled with fruit of the Spirit?
Gal. 5: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.
6. The Piñata is not fulfilling its potential (It’s Purpose) unless it is broken! (Until it is broken)

The world says if it is broken throw it away
God says unless you are broken I cannot use you!

Mark 14: 3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. 6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.

What needs to be broken in your life?
