We are beginning a brand new series called, ONE. One makes all the difference. One decision, One life, One church. When you hear the word One, what comes to mind?
Pastor Eric defined a "watershed moment" as a turning point. It’s the exact moment that changes the direction of a person’s life. To begin, take some time and reflect on watershed moments or turning points that have happened in your own life. Is there one in particular that stands out? How have they shaped you into the person you are today?
Energy flows where focus goes. Are there any areas of your life where you feel God calling you to focus on right now?
Pastor Eric reminds us that people who live integrated lives are the happiest. This is one of the reasons why small groups are so important. When we are integrated we are interconnected, but when we are disintegrated we are fragmented and stressed. Has there ever been a time when you have tried to handle life's problems and hard times all on your own? If so, how did it work out?
Read Proverbs 3:5-6. In this passage, God is telling us to go all in and have confidence in Him. This ONE decision directs all of your other decisions. However, this is often harder than it sounds. Why do you think this is such a difficult step for us?
Let's continue exploring Proverbs 3:5-6 and how it relates to us individually. How can I build my life around this ONE decision? Use the following points to help put this question into perspective:
- Are you trusting the Lord with all your heart?
- Does your filter need to be changed?
- Can you follow God’s directions when they conflict with your desires?
- Would you rather trust your feelings or your Heavenly Father?
Take some time and pray this prayer either alone or out loud with your small group. "Heavenly Father, I place my trust in you today with ALL my heart. I will no longer depend on simply my understanding of my life. I will defer to your wisdom. Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice for my sin on the cross. For you alone love me more than anyone or anything else. I freely offer to you all the areas of my life. I choose to see my life and this world through your eyes. I want to be in the center of your will for my life. Amen."
