Judgment
Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel.
God had let things go on long enough and now His judgment had come.
What put the nail in the coffin, was the sins of Hophni and Phinehas, and their Father Eli.

Discipline
Eli didn’t restrain his sons and God held him RESPONSIBLE.

· Instruction- Show them in the Word, what they did wrong.
· Punishment- (this is the painful part) grounding, losing privileges, lose your phone, etc.
· Prayer- Since we sinned against God, we must repent and ask for FORGIVENESS.

We learned in Proverbs and Hebrews that God punishes those He loves and when we discipline our children, we show them that we love them.

Restrain Them
God’s judgment against Eli was that he did not RESTRAIN his sons.
Restrain means to PREVENT them from sinning.
God’s Judgement fell in Israel for the many, many sins they had committed against the Lord.

God is slow to anger
War
The Philistines had come up against Israel. On the first day of the battle 4,000 Israelites were killed.
Last week we learned a principle: SIN causes confusion.

In this state of confusion, they did not seek the Lord, they just presumed to do something. They said: Let’s bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord here from Shiloh

You can’t Use God
He is God! The Eternal Creator. He is in heaven, dwelling in unapproachable light! He is All Powerful, Almighty, illuminated with power emanating from His throne.

Fighting against God
The Philistines fought hard against Israel and defeated them, because the hand of the Lord was AGAINST Israel. God is on the side of Justice and judgment.
Judgment is NOT
Judgment is not God bringing “ill” against us.
Judgment is us, receiving the righteous punishment that we deserve for our sins against God.
Judgment is something we BRING on ourselves.

God does not want us to live in sin, disregarding His Word, and His laws, seldom spending time with Him and then cry out: God help me! God save me.

Repentance
What God wants from His people is REPENTANCE.
Repentance means a change of heart and change in behavior.

God Judged Eli
Among the 30,000 Israeli’s that were killed, were Hophni and Phinehas. God had Judged them for their SINS. Eli fell backwards and broke his neck at this news. Phinehas’ wife also died giving birth.

Your sin affects more than just you (vs 10)
Eli, Hophni and Phinehas sinned against Israel.
When sin and hypocrisy are happening in the House of God, people don’t want any part of it. When judgment finally came, thousands of people died.
Your sin affects many others even if you keep it HIDDEN.

Repentance
The only way to drive out evil spirits of sin is: Confession and repentance. These sins need to come to LIGHT and the whole family needs to know. Quit hiding your sin.
Secrecy is the devil’s playground
When we don’t confess and let our family know, it sets us up for failure.
God never tells us to hide our sin, but God wants sin EXPOSED.
God wants us to repent and turn away from our sins and for us to walk with Him in holiness.

The Glory of the Lord has departed
When Phinehas’ wife went into labor, she prophesied as she was dying: “Ichabod”
· The Lord and His presence will not leave us when we commit one sin.
· The Lord is patient with us, and He has given us the Holy Spirit to convict us.
· He’s given us His Word to convict us.
· He’s given COMMUNION once a month to convict us.
· He’s given us Sunday school teachers, Life Group leaders, and Pastors who preach the Word all to encourage, exhort, and convict us, so that we will be right with God.

But when someone continues in repeated sinful behavior, slowly their heart becomes hardened.

Ichabod
Repent now, before you sin repeatedly and harden your heart. Because there is line that we can cross that is Ichabod. The spirit of the Lord has departed.
