What are the characteristics of someone deeply rooted in God?

People of Spiritual Depth realize humble submission to God brings blessing and lessens conflict.

If God knows what is best, am I willing to submit to it?

1. The Cause of Conflict: Competing desires and loyalties.

James 4:1-4
"…your passions are at war within you…you desire and do not have…you adulterous people…whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God…"

As we keep God in the right spot in our lives, God will help us keep others in their rightful spots in our lives.

2. The Solution to Conflict: Humility.

James 4:6, 10
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble...Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself. Its thinking of yourself less.

A. The Humble Life yields to God.

James 4:7a
"Submit yourselves therefore to God."

Who’s in charge of my life?

When I disagree with God my pride is speaking. “And therefore, I am wrong” is humility speaking.

B. The Humble Life resists the enemy.

James 4:7b
"Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

I resist the enemy by submitting to God.

C. The Humble Life is a journey of moving closer to God.

James 4:8a
"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you."

D. The Humble Life is the repentant life.
