Sermon Title: "Delivering the Deliverer"

Sermon Title: "Delivering the Deliverer"

Often failure to achieve success drives from a heart of fear. This is true, even to the mission that God's has called us to fulfill. Despite our responsivity, we sometimes fall short when it comes to doing the right thing, especially when faced with a seemingly dangerous situation. Obedience to the Lord is not as easy as it seems. Nonetheless, we are called to let go of our fears and surrender everything to Jesus, including the outcome of the situation. In a sermon titled, "Delivering the Deliverer", Pastor Ben Towell will help us discover what it means to let go of our fears and give it all to Jesus, even when faced by uncertainty.

Overview: Have you ever felt called by God to do something that seemed impossible? Maybe the Lord has called you to be a godly parent, a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, or a witness for His Son, Jesus. Nonetheless, when it comes to self confidence, we often fall short and began to second guess ourselves, and sometimes even second guess God. It is important that we keep in mind, the Lord does not call the qualified. He qualifies the called.

Directions: Today, we will learn how to overcome resistance. We will see through the response of Gideon how easy it can be to doubt God, but also how hopeful we can be in God’s faithfulness.
I. The scene presented a time of urgency. (v. 33)
II. God’s Spirit empowered Gideon for success. (v. 34-35)
Three amazing details:

1. God clothed Gideon in His power. (v. 34a)
2. God compelled the Abiezrites to follow Gideon’s leadership. (v. 34b)
3. God created an adequate army of defense. (v. 35)
III. Gideon’s skepticism resulted in him testing God’s faithfulness. (v. 36-38)
IV. We surrender to God or to our circumstances. (v. 39-40)
“Fear creates a form of spiritual amnesia.” (Max Lucado)
1. We must be faithful.
2. We must be fervent.
3. We must be fearless.
Destination: Like Gideon, we are not alone in our calling to serve the Lord. We are on mission, God’s mission. It is a mission of redemption. It is a mission of salvation. It is a mission of deliverance. Not only are we saved by the gospel message, but we have also been saved to proclaim the gospel message.

Reflection: Use the private notes section below or your personal journal to put the message of these verses into your own words so you can communicate them with others.

Your voice matters! (see Mark 16:15)
