Psalm 122

Orthodoxy
Orthopraxy
Orthopathos
David is speaking to himself
“What we have here is the authentic utterance of a redeemed child of God, who piles up words to express his gratitude to the God of grace.”
- John Stott
“I am loved, adopted, forgiven, and free, and I have nothing to prove.”
David is speaking to himself
David tells us how to worship
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.
Col. 3:16 (NRSV)
David is speaking to himself
David tells us how to worship
David warns us not to forget
“Memory is very treacherous about the best things; because of the Fall, it treasures up the refuse of the past and permits priceless treasures to lie neglected; it is tenacious of grievances and holds benefits all too loosely.”
- Charles Spurgeon
What God Does
Who God Is
1. Forgiveness of sins
Psalm 103:3a “…who forgives all your sins,”

Psalm 103:12 “…as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
2. Healing
Psalm 103:3b “…and heals all your diseases,”
3. Redemption from the pit
Psalm 103:4 “Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,”
4. Satisfaction with good things
Psalm 103:5 “Who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Worship God for Who He Is
1. God works righteousness and justice for the oppressed.
2. God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving loyalty.
3. God does not always accuse or harbor His anger forever.
4. God does not treat us as our sins deserve.
5. God’s love is from everlasting to everlasting.
God is Compassionate

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.
- Luke 6:36 (NLT)
God is Gracious
God is Slow to Anger

Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
- Proverbs 19:11 (ESV)
Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change. - 2 Peter 3:8-9 (MSG)
God Abounds in Loyal Love

Please forgive the iniquity of this people according to your great loyal love, just as you have forgiven this people from Egypt even until now. - Numbers 14:19 (NET)
God is a Good, Good Father

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; - Psalm 103:13
1. Receive God’s heart for you
1. Receive God’s heart for you
2. Be Imitators of God
Is there any real praise in your heart to God?

Do you have any real share in these blessings?

Am I forgiving and generous because that is just who I am?

Am I a grateful person and do I express it?

Do I have a holy habit of remembrance?
1. Receive God’s heart for you
2. Be Imitators of God
3. All that is within me bless His Holy Name!
