Sermon Title: JESUS, OUR PHYSICIAN
Sermon Text: MARK 1:40-45
Sermon Series: WHO IS JESUS?
By: PTR. NIC SY
SERMON NOTES

The word "physician" is linked to the word “physical.” In essence, we could say that a physician is one who is skilled in the art of physical healing.

WHY DOES GOD HEAL?
(Mark 1:40-42; Matthew 14:14)

Compassion | σπλαγχνίζομαι (splagchnizomai) which means “to be moved in the inward parts.”

Jesus healed not to put on a show.
(Mark 1:43-44; Mark 1:45)

Compassion is the call to do something.

IS IT GOD’S WILL TO HEAL?
(Mark 1:40-42 ; 1 Timothy 2:4)

Jesus healed not just to eventually stop doing it.
(Hebrews 13:8)

Willing | θέλω (theló) which carries the “idea of desire, intention and design.”

The most important part of our suffering and pain is that we remember who Jesus Christ is. He is our great physician.

IS HE WILLING TO HEAL ME?

You and I are bad enough to be healed.

Jesus wants to heal you in spite of your imperfect faith. Jesus loves you and wants you to be whole so that you can serve him, walk with him and glorify him. And regardless of how serious your situation may be, Jesus has the solution. He can do for you what no other can.

ENDING THOUGHT.
Jesus is the great physician.
His desires is for you to be whole.
And there’s no prerequisite or conditions.
Just come to him.

BENEVOLENT FUND
The recent typhoon brought about a devastating aftermath. The lack of drinking water, electricity, fuel and broken down homes brought us out of our comfort zones. Still, we are grateful for the Lord's protection, provision and His strength for such a time as this. Many of our fellow brethren need our prayers and help after Typhoon Odette destroyed their homes and our communities.

In line with this, if the Lord stirs your heart, you can send in your cash donations to our LWNRA Benevolent Fund. For those who would like to give cash or in-kind gifts, you may drop them at the Living Word NRA Center, 2F Northgate Centre, Banilad, Cebu City. Priority needs include food, drinking water, fuel, hygiene kits, and medical supplies.

Giving in cash is preferred as it gives us more flexibility/leverage in using it to purchase items in bulk for discounts or in giving cash for specific special needs. It is also safer because of minimal mobility and personal handling. However, for those who are unable to come to the office, you may also send them through our account at:

LIVING WORD NRA INC.

(Please send a picture or screenshot of your receipt through our Facebook Page or email us at livingwordnra@gmail.com and indicate to us that your offering is for the "LWNRA Benevolent Fund.")

For any questions and clarifications please send them to Living Word NRA mobile (0912 130 6148 - Jen Sia) or PM us at FB Messenger. Thank you brothers & sisters in Christ! God bless!

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE

GETTING STARTED
To the facilitator: Use this section to introduce the topic. If possible, give a brief recap of the sermon.

When caught in a crowd (e.g. rush hour traffic, long queue at the grocery, waiting line to be served at a government office, etc.), what do you do?

GROUP DISCUSSION.
Read Mark 1:40-45.
1. How would you describe the posture of the man with leprosy as he approached Jesus Christ? Why would the leper be unsure of Jesus’ desire to help (see Leviticus 13)?

2. In what ways does it surprise you that Jesus distanced himself from the public and media of his day? What do you think are some of the reasons Jesus told the leper not to tell everyone about what he had done? Why do you think the leper disobeyed him?

3. How is asking Jesus about his willingness different than asking about his ability? How does this question relate to the way you pray?

4. Read Hebrews 13:8 & Mark 4:23-24. Does knowing that Jesus’ healing of “various diseases” continues until today bring you comfort? In what ways might we be able to more resemble Jesus by showing compassion to those in need right now?

5. What is significant about Jesus touching the leper prior to healing him? What do you think did the crowd expect? What would you be seeing and feeling if you were in this crowd witnessing all these happen?

6. What is the difference between Jesus’ command (v.43-44) and what the leper did (v.45)? We see that Jesus did instruct the leper to offer a testimony (v.44b). If you have a relationship with Christ, what keeps you from sharing your testimony of Christ’s work in you life?

7. When we pray for people, we tend to show them more active care. Which friends or neighbors (believers and unbelievers) are you actively praying for?

Next Steps
Jesus loves you and wants you to be whole so that you can serve him, walk with him and glorify him.
- I believe that Jesus is our greatest Physician and is able to heal.
- I admit that I am like a leper in need of the Lord’s healing.
- I will lay all my sickness, sins, heartaches, and pain to Jesus who sees and understands every aspect of my life.
- I will share God’s truth of love and healing, and reach out to my friends and loved ones.

Don’t forget to:
- Go through the devotionals everyday this week.
- Have a regular daily time of prayer and reading of God’s Word.
- Commit 30 minutes a day for God’s intervention in this fight against the COVID virus.

CLOSING THE SESSION
Close the session by taking the time to pray for one another. Consider the following as you pray:
- Pray for healing in all areas of our lives (physical, spiritual, emotional, mental).
- Pray for a heart to express care and compassion to others.
- Pray for your unsaved family, friends, and loved ones.
- Pray for protection, provision, healing and comfort for everyone who’s going through physical, emotional, mental and spiritual pain.
