Father’s Day
June 18/19, 2022
Tim Doherty
We asked a few people …
· What are common messages about dads?
· Does, or did being with your dad make a difference or you?
· What has your dad taught you about God the Father’s love? Or What has being a dad taught you about God the Father’s love?
John’s gospel and John’s letter:
“Father” is used 13 times in I John, and 111 times in John’s gospel—way more than in any other books of the NT. The contrast is even greater for the word "love".

Jesus: “If you know me, you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” (John 14:7, CSB)

“What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life---that life was revealed, and we have seen it ...” (I John 1:1-2, CSB)
Made in the image of God, dads are meant to be a ___________________________________ to others.

1. Jesus makes God the Father _______________
2. Jesus makes God _______________
3. God is proud of His kids.
HOW THE LOVE OF THE FATHER WORKS THROUGH JESUS

“… Jesus responded to them, “My Father is still working, and I am working also.” This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill him: Not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God.

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, the Son is not able to do anything on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son likewise does these things. For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing, and he will show him greater works than these so that you will be amazed ....

“I can do nothing on my own. I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me.”” (John 5:17-20, 30, CSB)
Because the Father loves the Son, He shows His Son what He is doing. And because He loves His Dad, the Son does whatever He sees the Father doing. THIS is THE greatest demonstration of love. And this is the greatest example of fatherhood.

What does this mean for us?
- BE loved by God your Father.
- Join God in what He is doing by loving others with His love.
What does this practically look like?

1. Receive __________________________ daily.
2. Stay focused on the goal of making disciples.
3. Model the life and ways of Jesus.
Do life _____________________.
Let your love be _____________.
Let your strength ____________.
Let your love be ________________________.
