June 19, 2022 / More Than Music / Speak To The Mountains

Music is amazing...the music side of worship is awesome. But worship is more than just music. In the next several weeks we are taking some time to look at what worship is and some of the songs that we sing that many of us love here at Cross City North.

LAST WEEK:

PROMISES by Maverick City Music & SAME GOD by Elevation Worship...

God never promised us that storms won’t come.

When the storms come, He does promise to weather them with us.

The same God from Genesis to Revelation is the same God now.
- He has the same power to do all that He did then – He can do it all now.
Ever had those days that it seems like faith has run out?
SPEAK TO THE MOUNTAINS by Chris McClarney

Jesus Culture.com says... (Chris McClarney is a member of JC)
"Speak To The Mountains" is a 6 song EP from Chris McClarney. Written during the height of the 2020 lockdown, these songs serve as a reminder that God is for us, God is with us, and God is bigger than anything we face. "Speak To The Mountains" is comprised of songs that invite us to lay down our burdens and pick up joy and peace in all seasons.
DID YOU KNOW...

MOUNTAIN...
The Book Of Psalms holds 31 references to the word “Mountain”
- 310 references all together.
- Sometimes it’s geographical.
- Many times it’s metaphorical.
- When it’s this – it’s mostly related to faith.

Faith Hall of Fame in Hebrews 11-12...

“Great history of men and women of the faith who moved forward when worry would set most back. They stayed the course when others would quit. Their faith stood tall when others’ fear stood taller. They knew God was bigger, better, stronger, greater than they were. That’s why they made it in the Bible.”
FAITH...

“Faith is choosing to believe the Bible is true regardless of circumstances, regardless of emotions and regardless of cultural trends.”

If you were living as though the Bible were true, how would you be living?
VERSE:
Why would I worry when
giants come calling my name
My God is so much bigger
than troubles I face
1. All of the things we worry or fear the most are all things that do not worry God-at all.

Philippians 4:19-20...
19 ...And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Our wants, more so than our needs -usually generate WORRY.

WORRY generates stress!
WCIC.ORG interview with Chris McClarney...

“Many people including myself not only had to navigate but also had many personal trials on top of being isolated. As a result, many of the songs on the EP are battle songs, encouraging songs that God is bigger than anything we might face and ultimately God is for us, loves us and never STOPS loving us.”
2. Contentment is a great prescription for worry, fear and doubt.

- God is still God when you have little.
- God is still God when you have much.
- God’s title and ability doesn’t change with our changing circumstances.
VERSE:
Why would I hunger
for power or riches or fame
'Cause my God is so much better than all of these things.

CHORUS:
So I won't be shaken,
I won't be moved
My God is faithful,
His promise is true
So I'll speak to the mountains -
Oh, it's time to move
'Cause my God is bigger,
better, stronger,
greater than you
Paul writing while in prison...

Philippians 4:10-18...
10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.14 Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. 18 I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
Philippians 4:13...
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

**Single-handedly the most misquoted Bible verse on all levels.
WORSHIP...

It’s focusing your mind’s attention and your heart’s affection on God for who He is and for what He has done...

NOTICE...
- It’s not for what He is going to do
- It’s not for what He can do or might possibly do.

Paul would remind us here:
- It’s not focusing on MY needs
- It’s not focusing on MY wants

It’s focusing your mind’s attention on Him and worshipping through all circumstances and situations and allowing your heart’s affection to be reminded and restored knowing He’s got you.

Here’s a PROMISE to focus on in worship...
- God knows exactly what needs you have even without you asking for them.
- yet asking is an awesome form of humility.
- you realize how big He is and how small you and I are.
3. Joy and thanksgiving go hand-in-hand with prayer and peace in all times.
BRIDGE:
There's no mountain too high,
no valley too low.
There's no fear that I have
He doesn't already know
There's no problem too big,
there's no weapon too strong
There is nothing for God
that's impossible!
Philippians 4:4-7...
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
CHORUS:
So I won't be shaken,
I won't be moved,
My God is faithful,
His promise is true
So I'll speak to the mountains -
Oh, it's time to move
'Cause my God is bigger,
better, stronger,
greater than you.
Philippians 4:8-9...
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
