What you believe about eternity determines how you live today.

Matthew 7:13
You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell (the road that leads to destruction. NIV) is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. NLT

Matthew 7:14
But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. NLT

If God is loving, why does Hell exist?

Hell exists for God to deal righteously with the devil.

Revelation 20:10
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur where the beast and the false prophets had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. NIV

Hell exists for God to deal righteously with unbelievers.

We want justice on earth but we want love and grace in the afterlife.

It is impossible for God to be holy without also being just.

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9
He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might. NIV

Accepting the reality of Hell enables us to appreciate the goodness of God.

Luke 16:19
There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. NIV

Luke 16:20-21
At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus covered with sores, and he was longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. NIV

Luke 16:22-23
The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment...NIV

The Greek word “Hades” is the same as the Hebrew word “Sheol.”

Luke 16:23
In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. NIV

Luke 16:26
A great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us. NIV

Luke 16:24
So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire. NIV

2 Corinthians 5:8
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

1 Peter 3:8-9, 4:6

Ephesians 4:8-9, 2 Corinthians 12:1-4, Revelation 6:9, 7:9

Revelation 20:15
Anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life WAS thrown into the lake of fire. NLT

Revelation 14:10-11
They too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of His wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. NIV

Hell (Gehenna): Valley of Hinnom.

Luke 16:27-28
I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment. NIV

The rich man was fully conscious and aware.

The rich man's eternal destiny was irrevocably fixed.

The rich man knew his suffering was fair and just.

The rich man pleaded for someone to help his brothers know Jesus.

Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. NIV

Romans 3:23
All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. NIV

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death. NIV

Romans 5:8
God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. NLT

John 3:16
God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. NIV

Romans 5:9
Since we've been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God's condemnation. NLT

God doesn’t want anyone to perish. (2 Peter 3:9)
