What's your favorite kind of music?

John Hopkins Medicine says this about MUSIC...
"If you want to firm up your body, head to the gym. If you want to exercise your brain, listen to music. It’s a complete brain workout."
GRATITUDE by Brandon Lake

Air 1 Worship - Radio Station says...
“Gratitude is Brandon Lake’s humble offering of thanksgiving to an infinite God. This gentle ballad explores the tension between his overwhelming gratitude towards God and the corresponding awareness of the limitations of his own finite humanity.”
VERSE 1:
All my words fall short. I got nothing new
How could I express, all my gratitude.
I could sing these songs as I often do
But every song must end, and You never do.

CHORUS:
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
'Cause all that I have is a hallelujah...
1. GRATITUDE begins when you and I praise God for WHO HE IS and HOW GOOD HE IS.

Psalm 150:1-6...
1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary;
praise Him in His mighty heavens!

2 Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
praise Him according to His excellent greatness!

3 Praise Him with trumpet sound; praise Him with lute and harp!

4 Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with strings and pipe!

5 Praise Him with sounding cymbals;
praise Him with loud clashing cymbals!

6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
PRAISE...

Hallelujah...a Hebrew word meaning “Praise Yahweh!”
- It’s a command throughout scripture in various forms:
- Singing...Psalm 9:11
- Shouting...Psalm 33:1 & 98:4
- Dancing...Psalm 150:4
- Instruments...Psalm 108:2

The book of Psalm is book of Praise.
- is the joyful recounting of all God has done for us.
- it doesn’t require anything of us.
- it’s a truthful acknowledgment that He is worthy...Psalm 18:3

Praise is something that can also be used in other relationships as well.

It’s often our response to some action that directly benefits us
- praise kids for making good grades
- praise kids in doing well in sports
- praise and gratitude go hand in hand.
- praise is a great road to travel down that can lead to incredible worship.
2. When PRAISE moves God to meddle with OUR HEART, it can move us to a PLACE OF WORSHIP. This place is called SURRENDER.
CHORUS:
...And I know it's not much but I've nothing else fit for a King
Except for a heart singing hallelujah. Hallelujah!

VERSE 2:
I've got one response. I've got just one move.
With my arms stretched wide. I will worship You...
Gotquestions.org says this about the Book of Psalms...
“The book of Psalms is a book of songs that is sometimes called 'Israel’s National Hymnbook.' The title of the book in Hebrew is Tehillim, which means 'Praises.' It is a book of praises, but some of the psalms are written out of deep despair and questioning. It is a book of prayers containing the writers’ innermost questions and doubts as well as their praises and thanksgiving.”
Psalm 51 & The Outcome in 2 Samuel 11 & 12...
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. 14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
WORSHIP...

- 180 references in Scripture.

- It’s PRAISE’S highest form that should only be reserved for God alone
- It’s losing self in the adoration of God.
- It’s 33 times in one Psalm, David letting God know “I know I was wrong and He was right.”
- It’s knowing that for every me, myself & I issue – God is the Only One worthy to fix me.

It’s focusing your mind’s attention and your heart’s affection on God for who He is and for what He has done...

NOTICE...
- It’s not for what He is going to do
- It’s not for what He can do or might possibly do.

MORE ON WORSHIP:
- Worship and surrender go hand in hand.
- With what worship is...it’s impossible to worship God and anything else.

It has different postures:
- Bowing or kneeling
- Lifting hands in surrender
- Praying
- Singing

It’s inviting the Holy Spirit to speak to us
- Without the Holy Spirit residing in us, we cannot respond to God in worship because we do not know Him.

Worship’s end game:
- comfort
- conviction
- realigning priorities to match His.
3. WORSHIP becomes our lifestyle when GRATITUDE remains regardless of CIRCUMSTANCES.
CHORUS:
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
What situation has rendered your worship powerless?
BRIDGE:
Oh come on, my soul
Oh, don't you get shy on me
Lift up your song
'Cause you've got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord
Paul & Silas...Acts 16:25-28
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened. 27 When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.”
4. Your PERSEVERANCE & WORSHIP might end up changing someone else’s LIFE FOREVER.

Acts 16:30-34...
30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. 34 Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.
