God’s wrath: Settled hostility toward sin in all its various manifestations.

Romans 1:18:

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

God’s judgment is His response to the human race rejecting God.

HUMANITY SUPPRESSES THE TRUTH ABOUT GOD.

When people turn their backs on God (suppress the truth about God), it results in wickedness.

HUMANITY IGNORES GOD’S REVELATION.

Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Psalm 19:1-4

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display His craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make Him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. NLT

Acts 14:17

He (God) never left them without evidence of Himself and His goodness. For instance, He sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts. NLT

HUMANITY PERVERTS GOD’S GLORY

Romans 1:22-23

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

God created us to worship.

Romans 1:24, 26, 28 (God gave them over).

WRATH OF ABANDONMENT.

Eternal wrath.

Eschatological wrath.

Cataclysmic wrath.

Passive and active wrath.

Wrath of abandonment seen in Romans 1.

Judges 10:13-14

You have abandoned Me and served other gods. So I will not rescue you anymore. Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen! Let them rescue you in your hour of distress! NLT

Romans 1:24

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.

The sexual revolution is over and the revolt was successful.

You can choose your desires or choose God and His will.

Romans 1:26-27

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Romans 1:28

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

Romans 1:29-31

They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and

depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.

Romans 1:32

Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

A society is under God’s wrath of abandonment when it will not tolerate anger against sin.

Isaiah 5:20-21

What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. NLT
