Sermon Text: HEBREWS 9:27
Sermon Series: #HASHTAG
By: BRO. JEREMY LEONES
SERMON NOTES

#YOLO, You Only Live Once.
#YODO, You Only Die Once.

Four universal certainties about life and death:
1. Everyone dies.
God didn't design people to die but to live eternally.
We do not need to fear death because God cares for our deaths.

2. Everyone dies once.
Reincarnation is a lie, an illusion and a deception.
All the chances to have eternal life is given here and now in this earthly life.

3. Everyone dies at the appointed time.
God is sovereign in all matters of life and death.
Submit to his sovereignty because our Sovereign God is a good God!

4. Everyone who dies will be evaluated after death.
Each person must make a choice in this life, a choice that will determine his or her eternal destination.
Hell is the punishment or rejecting Christ.

Ending Thought:
#YOLO, Don't waste your life on the pleasures of this world.
Live your life for Jesus.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
Here’s exciting news for the little kids and the parents out there. The Children’s Ministry is inviting you to join our Sunday school every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. For more details, please message us anytime at www.livingwordnra.com.

BENEVOLENT FUND
The recent typhoon brought about a devastating aftermath. The lack of drinking water, electricity, fuel and broken down homes brought us out of our comfort zones. Still, we are grateful for the Lord's protection, provision and His strength for such a time as this. Many of our fellow brethren need our prayers and help after Typhoon Odette destroyed their homes and our communities.

In line with this, if the Lord stirs your heart, you can send in your cash donations to our LWNRA Benevolent Fund. For those who would like to give cash or in-kind gifts, you may drop them at the Living Word NRA Center, 2F Northgate Centre, Banilad, Cebu City. Priority needs include food, drinking water, fuel, hygiene kits, and medical supplies.

Giving in cash is preferred as it gives us more flexibility/leverage in using it to purchase items in bulk for discounts or in giving cash for specific special needs. It is also safer because of minimal mobility and personal handling. However, for those who are unable to come to the office, you may also send them through our account at:

(Please send a picture or screenshot of your receipt through our Facebook Page or email us at livingwordnra@gmail.com and indicate to us that your offering is for the "LWNRA Benevolent Fund.")

For any questions and clarifications please send them to Living Word NRA mobile (0912 130 6148 - Jen Sia) or PM us at FB Messenger. Thank you brothers & sisters in Christ! God bless!

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE

GETTING STARTED
To the facilitator: Use this section to introduce the topic. If possible, give a brief recap of the sermon.

What do you think will people remember you for? Does it matter?

GROUP DISCUSSION
Read Hebrews 9:27
1. What comes to mind when you read the phrase, “appointed time”? How does the attitude of a Christian and a non-Christian differ when it comes to the reality of death? What attribute/character of God do we see in this text?

2. People today live under the impression that life must be lived for the here and now — with no consideration for future consequences or rewards. Does the mindset of “eat, drink and be merry” manifest in your life? How can we embody “You Only Live Once” in a biblical sense?

3. Living the worldly #YOLO life often results in difficult outcomes. How can our poor decisions actually be invitations to lean on Jesus all the more?

4. Woody Allen summarized many unbelievers’ view of death: “I’m not afraid to die; I just don't want to be there when it happens.” When was the last time someone you knew or was close to you passed away? Share the thoughts that had at that time. Were they filled with hope? Or were they that of despair?

5. #YOLO and the Bible are both calling us to view the reality that one day we will die. Since our lives were given to us by God, how do we make it matter for his glory? Read Psalm 90:12,16-17 as you reflect on your answer.

6. For the believer, death is not the end but a continuation of life in the presence of God. Do you ever look forward to “being in the presence of God?” What are the things in your life today that keeps you “earthbound”? How does Philippians 1:21 challenge you?

7. The apostle James says that our lives are “just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away” (cf James 4:13-15). How then should we view and live with the opportunities that we are given? (See also Ephesians 5:15-17.)

Next Steps
“You Only Live Once. Don't waste your life on the pleasures of this world. Live your life for Jesus."
- I will glorify God with the days he has given me.
- I will meditate on Hebrews 9:27 and be reminded of how precious my days are.
- I will be careful with my walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of my time, because the days are evil. - Ephesians 5:15
- I will remind myself that death is not to be feared nor dreaded because the God of my life, is also the God of my death.
- I will share the gospel to my friends and loved ones.

Don’t forget to:
- Go through the devotionals everyday this week.
- Have a regular daily time of prayer and reading of God’s Word.
- Commit 30 minutes a day for God’s intervention in this fight against the COVID virus.

CLOSING THE SESSION
Close the session by taking the time to pray for one another. Consider the following as you pray:
- Ask the Lord to help you to live for Christ and not be earthbound in focus.
- Take the time to pray for the country, for peace, and for God to work out his sovereign will, with the results of the elections.
- Pray for your unsaved family, friends, and loved ones.
- Pray for protection, provision, healing and comfort for everyone who’s going through tough times.
