Embrace Your Leadership
Several Key WORDS that characterize wisdom and leadership lift off the pages of this punctuated day in Daniel 6. What are these key characteristics in Daniel's leadership?
Since we've already dealt with loyalty, attitude, and integrity, let's focus the final three:
consistency: Daniel did consistently what we do occasionally.
humility: Daniel did in humility when we do in pride.
legacy: Daniel did significance while we settle for success.
What will your legacy be? What will you leave behind? And speaking more broadly, what will the legacy of our church be?
Justice for Children
In addition to discussing some great leadership traits in Daniel's life, there are a few more important items to consider - namely, justice for children.
There's a verse in Daniel Chapter 6 that invites us to discuss something that is truly "systemic" in our time - the massive loss of children's rights.
Daniel 6:24 At the king’s command, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions’ den, along with their wives and children. And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.
When adult desire is “god” - children are the required sacrifice.
One of the most destructive myths to a child's well-being is “the kids will be fine.” It's a common refrain. No-fault divorce? The kids will be fine. Homes without a mom and dad? The kids will be fine. Artificial reproductive technologies that separate kids from their biological moms and dads? The kids will be fine. Same sex parenting? The kids will be fine.
When we prioritize the desires of adults over the needs of children, the kids will never be fine. Children are expected to sacrifice their fundamental rights on the altar of adult desires. But what the kids tell you is that "we are not fine."
Them Before Us by Katy Faust is one of the resources consulted in this message which issues the call for a global children's rights movement.
"Are the kids really fine?" Well, because of you moms and dads, many kids are doing great. But in other cases, children are in trouble - globally.
Fortunately, you don't have to be a parent to be a difference maker for "the least of these." Daniel 6 will teach you how to lead, but it will also point you to the One who shows you how to love - even in the Lion's Den. Come, and join the Biblical Worldview Church movement and let's be Jesus in this world.
