Happy Mother's Day!

BIG QUESTION: Will you offer yourself willingly, as an ordinary person, to bring about God's extraordinary purposes?

Memory passage:
Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. 1 Corinthians 7:17
--Deborah is a prophet, giving Barak the military strategy and direction
The theme of Deborah’s life and story is – and what she inspired Barak and thus the people to do – is offer yourself up, as an ordinary person, to bring about God’s extraordinary purposes.
Deborah - mother of Israel

Deborah PROTECTED her people.
She DEFENDED them.
She STRATEGIZED on behalf of them.
She THOUGHT THRU the future for their communal well-being.
She did what mothers do… for the NATION.

What are you facing right now? Will you arise?
TOGETHER, we can GO OUT to confront our enemies.
TOGETHER, we can LISTEN to God and put our TRUST in His directions.

God calls ORDINARY Women and ORDINARY Men in partnership to achieve EXTRAORDINARY purposes.

Where in your life is God calling you to rise up and offer yourself, so that you live more and more into the call He has placed you in?
Remember you will find wisdom and strength along the way from Him and others.

Daily Prayer:
Lord, help me to live into my 3-fold calling (Connection, Multiplication, Restoration), understand my SHAPE, and partner with you in the location you have placed me in this world.
PCC BENEDICTION
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
Beyond Sunday
During this 9-week series, we will focus on what it means to be called by God. Simply put, we are Ordinary People with Ordinary Callings. We each have an ordinary call that takes a unique shape in a specific place. Our ordinary call is 3-fold: Loving God & others (Connection), making disciples (Multiplication) and healing a broken world (Restoration). The SHAPE it takes is based on our Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experiences. The place we find ourselves is where God has positioned us in the world for His work to be completed. This week, we reflected on how a courageous woman named Deborah lived into her calling.

1. Take a moment to reflect on our theme verse 1 Corinthians 7:17. Does more belief or doubt about your calling rise up in you more after reviewing this passage? And how are you owning your 3-fold calling more?
-- CONNECTION Loving God & Others (Matthew 22:36-40)
-- MULTIPLICATION Making Disciples (Matthew 28:18-20)
-- RESTORATION Healing A Broken World (Matthew 6:10)

2. Read Judges 4:1-3to understand the historical background of this story. What is the situation that Israel finds themselves in?

3. Read Judges 4:4-16. What are you noticing about Deborah and Barak? How do their roles differ? Where do they each find their strength? How does this relate to us when living into our calling?

4. Read Judges 4:17-23. How do you feel about Jael’s assassination of Sisera? Is it justified or evil? Consider how it relates to others who have be called to such acts (e.g., Hebrew midwives letting boys live that were ordered to be killed, Rahab hiding spies to help them enter the Promised Land).

5. Read Judges 5:1-9. This is a song retelling the story of Deborah and Barak’s victory. Note how it declares two things that were needed: (5:2,9) people willingly offering themselves to God’s call and (5:7) leaders like Deborah rising up. In your own life, what “good works” have you seen God do when these two things happen?
