In the Zone - Chris Burkholder

Jesus and the Apostles faced a number of difficult and uncomfortable situations. When looking at these stories which have been described in the gospels, we need to think of them as more than just accounts of events, but should rather use them as a mirror to check our own comfort level, as we make our way in God's church and kingdom. Only by moving out of our comfort zone, can we be transformed and renewed.

1. We are all in, or try to be, in a zone.

Is it a comfortable one, or where you were destined to be? If we can find our purpose in God's Kingdom then we are really in the zone.
2. Acts 10:1-16

Now, how about that tenth chapter of Acts? We have a parallel conversion going on. You would think that Peter would be the one converting Cornelius. But in fact, God is also, and even more so, using Cornelius to convert Peter.
3. Acts 11:1-18

And how about that eleventh chapter of Acts? Peter turns out not to be the only Jewish follower of Jesus to resist these unclean Gentile converts. As long as all those Gentiles convert to Judaism, and get circumcised, everything should work out just fine.
4. Getting out of your comfort zones

Now those comfort zones which are based on your ethnicity and your religion can be extremely comfortable. And then if you find a way to get wealthy in that system, not even Jesus himself will be able to talk you out of it. Disruption from that kind of a comfort zone can have you throwing the son of God off a cliff. Or stoning him. Or crucifying him.
5. We need to find our purpose in God's kingdom.

So let's find our purpose in God's kingdom! Let's get in the zone. Don't get stuck in your comfort zone.
Let's Apply It:
Do not conform, but be transformed. Get in the zone!
