Welcome to Impact! / About us
Welcome to Impact Christian Church! We are honored to have you with us this Sunday morning as we celebrate Jesus.

Impact is a new church in Independence. With the focus of restoring hope in a hurting world, we are committed to being a family of everyday people doing what we can to honor God and serve each other.

We are a non-denominational, New Testament, Christian Church. What that simply means is that we are wide open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey. So whether you are a committed Christian or just starting to ask questions about this Jesus thing, we want you to know that you belong here! You can be you. We don’t have to agree on every religious or political idea in order to be a part of what Jesus is doing in our midst. In fact, when we come together around Jesus in spite of our differences, we get to experience a beautiful picture of the way God designed the Church.

We invite you to make an Impact with us!

When you follow Jesus, you join God's family and become HEIRS to his kingdom as evidenced by your:
Humble adoration
Eternal focus
Intentional discipleship
Restoring community
Sacrificial service
The Trial - Week 1 - Pastor Nick Grim

Last week we finished our series Jesus Who and we ended with: Stones will destroy but Jesus came to give life!

This week we start a new series called Trial. Through this series we are going to discover the truth and in the next few weeks we are going to be looking at:

The Accuser (John 8)
The Witnesses (John 9)
The Defense (John 10)
The Sentence (John 11)

Have you ever been had people claim that you are something that you are not?

The Devil lies about you as he did Jesus.

John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Don’t give the Devil credit for what you do.

In other words, stop using the phrase “The Devil made me do it.”
You are not innocent when it comes to sin.

John 8:37-38 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”

Often we feel like we know what or who we are.

Jesus should define our truth.

John 8:39-41 They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God.”

What do we do to define ourselves:
We look at our religion
We look at our heritage
We look at our sin

So often we allow for everything besides Jesus to define us.

Let Jesus define you by what you do not by the labels we wear.

John 8:42-44 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.

The Devil wanted to end Jesus’s life

The Devil wants your life to end and others

Matthew 5:21-22 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.

If murder is related to hate than he wants people to hate you and you to hate yourself.

John 8:44-46 When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

The Devil wanted to make people believe lies about Jesus.

The Devil lies to you and to others about you.

He wants you to believe the lies about yourself and others.

John 8:47 Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”

Why am I not hearing God?

8 questions you need to ask yourself:
1. Are you sure you are following Jesus?
2. Are you asking God to speak into your life?
3. Are you taking time to hear what Jesus is saying?
4. Are you obeying what he has already asked you to do?
5. Are you believing lies about yourself or what others are saying about you?
6. Are you seeking encouragement from your brothers and sisters in Christ?
7. Have you believed some lies or struggled with sin you need to talk to someone about it?
8. Have you sought counseling?

The Devil lies about you as he did Jesus.
