The problem with chasing shades is that it robs you of two things. Satan and the world steal your hope and rob you of your clarity. They rob and steal you of your hope and your clarity. They give you enough light to see but not enough light to understand what you see. When that happens, you end up chasing shades.
The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. You have an enemy. He attacks your past, your present, your relationships, your identity, and your future.
The problem with shades, the problem with a lack of clarity is that you don’t know what to chase. You don’t know where to fix your gaze. You can end up worshiping and following and trusting the things that God gave you for your enjoyment and worshipping them instead of the giver of those good things. You place those things in the place of God.
Jesus’ death on the cross and three days later coming back to life brought the light we desperately need.
What we have are gifts from God, not a replacement for God. They should cause us to worship God, not be the object of worship. Gifts are to be given not to be stored. They are for the benefit of others instead of ourselves.
Our money is not for consumption but for giving.
Our power is not about control but for helping.
Our time is not running out, but running up. When you accept what Jesus did for you on the cross and through his resurrection, the grave is not your destination, it is your invitation to eternity with Him.
In the light of Jesus, we see God differently. He is not controlling, but caring. He is not trying to limit you, but protect you. As the creator of life He knows how best to live. He knows what will cause you harm and what will bring you joy. He knows what will destroy and what will bring you life to the full.
He is not angry, but loving. The wrath of God was satisfied on the cross of Jesus.
He is not against you, but for you.
He is not distant, but close. One of the names given to Jesus is Immanuel which means, "God with us".
You were made to proclaim good news to the lonely, sick, hurting and poor. You have heavenly water for the thirsty, Godly food for the hungry, freedom for the captive and liberation for the captive. Your life has purpose and value.
Your past is no longer your shame, but the introduction to the story of how God has made you new.
Because of His Spirit that he places in you when you get baptized you have everything you need for an abundant life.
Even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death you can fear no evil for He is with you. You are not alone. He is with you.
If you could see yourself through His eyes you would not be worried or anxious, because you have access to Him.
