For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 NIV
Two Kinds of Love
1. A love that loves because the object is valuable.
2. A love that loves and gives value to the object.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 NIV
God’s love makes you worthy.
… God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:8-10 NIV
When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” Luke 9:54 NIV
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 NIV
Make it Practical
Read Romans 5:8. What’s your thought process like when you read about God’s unconditional love for you?
Pastor Tom mentioned two kinds of love: a love that loves because the object is valuable, and a love that loves and gives value to the object.
What are some differences between these two types of love?
When you consider God’s love for you, what thoughts or feelings do you have?
