Temptation and Testing are Real Life

Luke 3:21-22

Luke 4:3-13

Doubt:
Luke 4:3 - "IF you are the son of God..."
Luke 4:7 - "IF you worship me (instead)..."
Luke 4:9 - "IF you are the son of God..."
The existence of the wilderness will never make God's words less true.

Ask yourself:
--What are the lies that play in my mind? Write them down.
--What are the deceptive ideas that these thoughts that feel to have an evil will to them, that just keep coming back? Write them out. See if you can do some internal work.
--What’s the trust structure below them?
--What’s the fear that’s attached to them, that’s driving me, or the desire that’s disordered that’s driving me?
--What scripture can I use to counter the lie? Pray and ask God to reveal one and write it down.
--Redirect your thoughts by replacing them with the truth that is God’s word.
PCC BENEDICTION
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
Beyond Sunday
The intent of our Lenten 5-day Devotional format is to give you an opportunity to reflect on Jesus' suffering and realize that “He Knows” your suffering. Note the daily prayer and weekly family/couple moment. During this 2nd week of Lent, we focus on how Jesus knows temptation.

Monday: In the last week, how did you connect your suffering of any kind with Jesus’ suffering? If not, how might you? What holds you back from doing so? What would be the benefit of doing so?

Tuesday: Prior to Jesus being tempted in the wilderness, He was baptized and His Father in heaven spoke to Him. Revisit this scene in Luke 3:21-22. What are your observations? (who is there, what is said, why is this significant, etc.)

Wednesday: Read through the temptation of Christ in the wilderness in Luke 4:1-13. Why do you think God would allow this? In what way is Satan attempting to degrade what God said to Jesus?

Thursday: Jesus can be our guide to survive the temptation in the wilderness. What is the primary tool that He uses to fight off Satan the liar (John 8:44)? Why is this so effective?

Friday: Identify the one or two ways in which Satan takes a hold of your fears and turns them into lies. What truth from God could you use to counter the lies Satan is telling you?

Weekly Family/Couples Moment: Read through the temptation of Jesus Luke 3:21-22. What do you notice or observe? How does Jesus give us a good example to fight off Satan's lies and temptation? Share some lies you believe about yourself? What is the truth God wants you to believe about those lies?

Daily Prayer: Lord, help me to appreciate your suffering for me more and more. May you reveal it to me in new ways and may it grow my awareness of your love for me.
