Matthew 26:14-16
A. Judas' Great Call
1. Judas was a fulfillment of prophecy.
2. Judas was chosen by Christ.
3. Judas knew Jesus face to face.
B. Judas' Greed and Expectations
1. Judas was financially gifted.
2. The Judas embezzled money.
3. Judas sold Jesus like a dead slave.
4. Why would Judas betray Jesus like this?
a. The devil made him do it.
b. He had false expectations of who Jesus was.
c. He wanted to stop a larger, more dangerous rebellion.
d. Jesus told him to.
No matter the motive behind the why, without Judas, Jesus does not get handed over to Rome and you don’t have the central component of Christianity—the Resurrection.
C. Judas' Intentional Betrayal
1. Misplaced desire will always lead to more than just unbelief.
2. Judas had worldly ambitions that led to a blindness of the Truth.
3. Christ will always see past bad intentions to get to our greatest potential.
D. Truths Extracted from Judas
1. Ability will never be more important than availability.
2. Spiritual gifts do not assure permanent success, Christ alone does.
The gift of administration can lead to being overbearing. The gift of speaking can lead to being super-spiritual (pride). The gift of leadership can lead to being self-seeking. The gift of giving can lead to selfishness.
The gift of administration can lead to being overbearing. The gift of speaking can lead to being super-spiritual (pride). The gift of leadership can lead to being self-seeking. The gift of giving can lead to selfishness.
3. Going to church does not assure salvation, allowing God in our heart and life does.
Bottom Line: We all have potential greatness in us through our God-given gifts, what lacks is our ability to see the necessity of Christ in the use of those gifts (the price of lost potential).
