Two Jezebels — one Old Testament and one New — with the same spirit influencing them.

In this passage, Jesus (65 years after His resurrection) is instructing John to pass a message to the church at Thyatira. He initially compliments the church on their good works, but then warns and corrects them for allowing Jezebel and the Jezebel spirit to impose itself on the church.

When a Jezebel spirit is operating in a church body, it is trying to get us to defile ourselves in two ways:

1. Sexual Immorality (Why Sexual immorality? Because that defiles us inwardly)

2. Eat things sacrificed to idols (Because that defiles us outwardly; The Jewish person knowingly eating things sacrificed to idols would defile themself outwardly)

• Another sign that you're dealing with a Jezebel spirit:
You dread confronting them for fear of how they will respond

• A Jezebel spirit cannot operate without an Ahab spirit (cf. 1 Kings 18)

• Six traits that characterize the Jezebel spirit:
Insecurity, Rejection, Pride, Arrogance, Manipulation, Control

• The Jezebel spirit operated without gender bias — Herod the Great operated in it.

So there's a spirit that operates in men and women. It is a manipulating, controlling, insecure, jealous spirit. It comes out of insecurity and rejection, and it becomes manipulating and controlling.

What are the effects of a Jezebel sprit? (or "how do you know if a Jezebel spirit if affecting you?")

1. Fear (including the aforementioned fear of confronting it) — You need to stand up and address that spirit of fear and its power. The power of the Jezebel spirit has power because we tolerate it. When we stop tolerating it, it has no more power

• Jezebel was rejected by her father and had a controlling mother.

Consequently, many people who have the Jezebel spirit feel rejected by the Father. They have a father wound (and sometimes also have a dominant mother).

• People who have a Jezebel spirit have to control. They don't want to be rejected, so they control every person in every circumstance around them.

• The most subtle way that the Jezebel spirit gets into a leader's life is through a friend.

• You have to distinguish between a person and a spirit.

2. You want to isolate yourself from the world — We all like getting away, but when you want to get away from "the world" there might be a Jezebel spirit

Let me tell you the difference between isolation and solitude — Solitude's a good thing. Jesus often withdrew to pray, to pray, to be with the father.

Solitude is getting along with God.
Isolation is getting along with you.

So when you feel like isolating yourself and withdrawing from everything in life, look around yourself and see if someone around you has been influenced by Jezebel.

3. You feel exhausted, not tired, Exhausted.

4. Depression — Thoughts of wanting to quit; This spirit will try to depress you.

Two more indicators that we may have tolerated or allowed a Jezebel spirit to effect our lives.
1. Strange and prolonged sickness:
2. Bizarre or near tragic accidents:

The Jezebel spirit tries to steal your peace, joy and confidence.
It tries to kill you with sickness and accidents and it's trying to destroy you with depression and fear.

So what's the answer? You stop tolerating it.

You address it in the person.
If they repent, you walk them through restoration
But if the person won't repent, you have to remove that person from any personal influence with you
