MAIN POINT: We can be blind and twist the truth and not know it.
Despite all of our morality, faith, and devotion to God, we can be blind to the ways we stand against God.
Blind spots are spaces or places where there is an activity that affects you, but that you can't see. We all have blind spots, they are areas that are either out of our sight or range of vision.
The Pharisees wanted people to follow God in their way because they believed their way was the right way.
Jesus critiques the Pharisees for their fruit (or lack thereof)
The word for "hell" in this passage is 'Gehenna' in Greek.
It was a physical ravine outside of Jerusalem (see 2 Kings 23:10; 2 Chronicles 28:3)
It was associated with death and dying and corruption.
It was a place of garbage, filth, and corpses.
It is possible to be passionate, deeply moral, religious, full of zeal for God and be blind to the ways you are opposing God.

There are many other instances of the church having blind spots:
The crusades
Arguing for slavery
Treatment of indigenous people
You don't know what you don't know
We are blind to our blindness
So, what do we do?
We sit and listen to Jesus.
Jesus wants to guide you, lead you, and direct you.
Challenge
Once a day pray "Reveal the areas of blindness in me."
