CONVERSATION STARTERS
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1. What was the significance of the temple in Jesus’ day?

2. According to Jesus in John 2:19-21, what is His relationship to the temple? How does Jesus see the temple differently than the Jews? What are the implications of these differences?

3. What similarities do you notice between this story and the story that preceded it about Jesus turning water into wine?

4. The temple was the center of the Jewish religion, and Jesus’ actions were a judgment upon its corruption. How can the Christian church today guard against the kind of corruption that infected the temple institution?

PRAYER PROMPT
Praise Jesus for becoming the new temple. Pray for Christ Community - for our elders, pastors, and lay leaders - that we would guard against the kind of practices that corrupted the temple in Jesus’ day.
Title: The Temple
Scripture: John 2:12-25
Speaker: Gabe Coyle, GabeC@cckc.church
> What do we do with a Jesus that disrupts the party?
“‘an attack on the whole of the financial arrangements for the sacrificial system’...the temple itself, the focal point where God and believers meet, where God accepts believers because of a bloody sacrifice, will be superseded by another ‘temple’, another sacrifice…”

- D.A. Carson, Pillar
> Jesus loves enough to fight for us!
> Let’s love enough to fight for us.
> Four Caveats:
- This was rare
- This wasn’t reactionary
- This wasn’t cruel
- This was a messianic act foretold
