5. Great Words of the Christian Faith: Words that reflect our Choice

#2 FAITH

Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved—you and your household.”

Summary Statements

Repentance: The “process of turnings” that are necessary for change. We turn away from the past; we turn toward the future; we turn around in the present. Repentance is the process by which we turn life in a new direction.

Faith: Faith is the process by which we form a new, living relationship with Christ Jesus. Faith is manifested in the past because we have become convinced that a certain testimony is true. We are likewise committed to Him because we also believe that His promises concerning the future are reliable. In the present, we live in communion with Him, drawing on His power and presence for victorious living.

So, Repentance is the turning of our life. Faith is the establishing of a new relationship.

Christian Life Lessons

1. Faith is our response to the Grace of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

2. Just as repentance is an ability generated in us by Holy Spirit, the same is true of Faith.

Romans 12:3 NIV For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

3. Faith is not the ability to get everything we want. Faith is the assurance we will have everything we need.
