Sermon Title: "Healing for Broken Homes"
Ephesians 5:22 - 6:9
Pastor James Hassell
Go All In: A Series in Ephesians
I. Introduction: There have been two harmful interpretations of this text.
a. Fundamentalist view: Men rule, no questions asked.
b. Feminist view: The passage is too patriarchal and "unfortunate."
II. Main Sermon Theme: Healing for your family begins and ends with Jesus Christ.
a. "Wives, be subject to your husbands as to the Lord."
I. Voluntary
II. Equal
III. Galatians 3:28
b. "The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church."
I. It has the meaning of being in communion, an intimate relationship.
II. The marriage relationship takes the priority.
c. "Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up
for her."
I. Gave up = "To hand over willingly."
II. "Crucifixion is the template." (Thomas Slater)
d. "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the
discipline and instruction of the Lord."
I. Provoke = "to agitate, aggravate, nag, hover"
II. Discipline and instruction: seeing, hearing, and participating in the
story of Jesus in the local church.
III. A word about grace for families: reconciliation over cancellation

Possible Cultivate Group
Pastor James is interested in leading a three-month Cultivate Group. The group would meet every two weeks. The group would discuss the biblical teachings of T.B. Maston—a longtime professor of Christian Ethics. Topics would include the authority and relevance of the Bible, evangelism, Christianity and world issues (such as race relations, economics, war, and the family), and Christian morality. A book is available for the study though not
necessary. Please let Pastor James know of your interest by February 20.

Missions Committee Report
Calling all bakers! The annual bake auction is set for Sunday, February 27th. We need baked items for the auction as well as some cash and carry items. There will be a sign-up sheet in the lobby or email/call Tammy. We are planning a remote way to bid as well. This has always been a great fundraiser for our mission programs.
We are setting up dates with the BSM at Texas State and UT to see if we can provide lunch one day.
We have a chance for ministry in our own “side” yard. There is a need to reach out to the families that use our field on Saturdays. We would like to set up a concession booth, maybe sell bottles of water, popcorn and other items and we would like to use this to make connections with these families to spread the Word of God.
There are many other projects we are looking at for the year:
Make a connection with our pre-school families and partner with Kocurek Elementary (currently we have a mentor program with the 4th graders) by reaching out to see other ways we can help.
Some of the other projects will include the canned food drive, backpack drive, rake brigade, Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a first responder appreciation and a project at the Heritage Foundation apartments (just off of Slaughter).
Do you have any suggestions? Please contact any of the committee members as we welcome suggestions. The committee is just the vessel for WWBC to share and show God’s love in our community.
Your Committee,
Tammy Andricak, Andrew Bell, Chris Christmas, LaVern Livergood, Jim Schroeder, Eddie Smith and Staff Representative, Jon Ratzlaff.
