CONVERSATION STARTERS
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1. What symbolism is present in this story, and how does it help explain who Jesus is?

2. Sometimes we are tempted to think that Jesus is only interested in solving our “spiritual” problems. But Mary invited Jesus to solve a very practical social dilemma (the embarrassment of having run out of wine at a wedding). What practical situations or problems in your life do you need to invite Jesus into?

3. In verse 11, the disciples respond to Jesus’ “sign” with faith in him. What is the relationship between miraculous signs and faith? In what ways has God intervened in unexpected or miraculous ways in your life?

PRAYER PROMPT
Thank God for the ways He has revealed himself in your life, both physical and spiritual. Ask Him to continue to intervene in your life for your good and His glory.
Title: Water into Wine
Scripture: John 2:1-11
Speaker: Reid Kapple, ReidK@cckc.church
> The very best has arrived in Jesus
“These two aspects of wine, its use and its abuse…are interwoven into the fabric of the OT so that it may gladden the heart of man (Ps. 104:15) or cause his mind to err (Is. 28:7), it can be associated with merriment (Ec. 10:19) or with anger (Is. 5:11), it can be used to uncover the shame of Noah (Gn. 9:21) or in the hands of Melchizedek to honor Abraham
(Gn. 14:18).”

-F.S. Fitzsimmonds (New Bible Dictionary)
> What happens when the wine runs out?
"A temporal object is valued more before [it is] possessed and begins to prove worthless the moment we attain it since it does not satisfy the soul."

-Saint Augustine
