Paul...
...course correction in much of his first 11 chapters.
...here in 12, his topic is the Holy Spirit and His gifts in your life.
...vitally important to the believer is their belief about the Holy Spirit.
...equally important is our ability to know and use the gifts He’s given us.
LAST WEEK...
- We RE-IGNITE when we remember His PRESENCE.

- We RE-IGNITE when we remember His PROMISE.

- We RE-IGNITE when we remember His POWER.

1 Corinthians 12:3...
1 “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed (or unaware in some versions). 2 You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.”
His Power in us changes everything...

It’s SUPERNATURAL Power
2 Timothy 1:6-7...
6 “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame (RE-IGNITE) the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

It’s SHARED Power
2 Timothy 1:8...
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,

It’s SAVING Power
2 Timothy 1:9-12...
9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of His own purpose and grace, which He gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do.

It’s STAYING Power
2 Timothy 1:12-14...
12 But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. 13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11...
4 “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
1. We REIGNITE our PASSION when we use HIS GIFTS!

1 Corinthians 12:4...
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit...
Gotquestions.org...
“The purpose of spiritual gifts is to promote “the common good” of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:7), to build up the church (1 Corinthians 14:12), and to prepare us each for “works of service . . . until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12–13). Each person upon accepting the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ receives the Holy Spirit inside as a seal of salvation (Ephesians 1:12–14). The Spirit then gives to each believer certain gifts from God to do the work of God (1 Corinthians 12:4–6).
These are the 7 Spiritual Gifts also found in Romans 12:4-8:

Romans 12:4-8...
4 “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

- Prophecy...declares, interprets & makes known God’s will, His truth & purpose

- Serving...ministers practical help to those in need.

- Teaching...explains, instructs & communicates the meaning, context & application of God’s Word to their hearers

- Exhortation...encourages God’s people to heed & follow God’s truth

- Giving...joyfully shares what they have with others...goods, money, time

- Leadership...guides with grace & manages the people of God with wisdom

- Mercy...shows sympathy with a desire to lessen suffering for others.
2. We REIGNITE His CHURCH when do His MINISTRY.

1 Corinthians 12:2...
...and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;
These are the 5 Ministries mentioned in Ephesians 4:11-12:

Ephesians 4:11-12...
11 And He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,

Apostles...
- 12 ambassadors who were the foundation of the church
- closest thing today would be a missionary

Prophets...
- proclaimed a new message/new revelation/new truth from God
- they did not have the complete Bible
- they filled-in-the-gaps for the church
- best, if one claims to be a profit – compare His words to Scripture.
- God needs no new revelation today. We have God’s Word.

Evangelists...
- one who proclaims the Good News, a Preacher of the Gospel
- first evangelists – Matthew, Mark, Luke & John
- first to share Jesus’ good news & write it down.

Pastors/Shepherds...
- one who oversees & gives care to God’s people – His church
- a shepherd who cares for God’s flock
- many joke that a pastor’s job is one day a week – preaching.
Pastors provide: Biblical counseling, visiting families in hospitals, checking in/on people who have been absent, helping in times of need – it’s being a more personal, practical helper in ministry.

Teachers...
- it’s a requirement for Pastors...1 & 2 Timothy
- it’s the God-given ability to explain God’s Word clearly
- who was the greatest teacher in the Bible – Jesus.
- Teaching’s logical end – hearers who become like the teacher or like the subject matter that is taught. IE. Jesus.
3. We REIGNITE the POWER of His VISION when we are UNITED for HIS GLORY.

1 Corinthians 12:6-7...
6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

His VISION for His church is VISIBLE when we are UNITED - ONE...

1 Corinthians 12:8-11...
These are the things that effect the common good:

- Wisdom
- Knowledge
- Faith
- Gifts, miracles, prophecy, tongues
Do you have this kind of POWER in you?

Do you have any of this kind of Christ’s leadership in you?

Do you have any of these Spiritual Gifts evident in your life?
hey
