We live in a society in which it is easy to get impatient, one where things are fast and convenient. However, things in life, including the decision to follow Jesus, often take time.
Jesus is on the Sea of Galilee. The crowd is vast and pushing up against him to hear his words. He hops in Simon Peter’s boat and pushes out into the water to create a makeshift amphitheater.
Peter is a blue collar, hard working, small business owner. He spent the whole night working with nothing to show for it, and had just finished cleaning up the nets, the worst part of the job, especially when you haven’t caught anything.
Peter found Jesus, not on his worst day, but in this moment on his best day.
However, this was not Peter’s first encounter with Jesus. More than a year ago as he followed John the Baptist, he saw Jesus baptized. He followed Jesus and saw Him teach, heal, and perform miracles. It wasn’t after any of those encounters that Peter decided to follow Jesus, but after this miraculous catch.
It takes time!
God wants to use you to be the pastor of your family, office, street, school and block. God has purposed, equipped and will sustain you in this process.
There has to be a place that gives people time! There needs to be a group of people who will fulfill roles and responsibilities at each of our locations to provide this place.
There has to be a church willing to step into the mess and be long suffering, patient, and caring, speaking truth with grace because it takes time!
It is here, it is with us, and it is now!
