Christmas PlayList
Oh Holy Night

Truly He Taught us to love one another
His law is love and his gospel is peace
Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother
And in his name all oppression shall ceae
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful voices raise we
Let all within us praise his holy name

This beautiful line in the song was written by an atheist and put to music by an unbelieving jewish man

God can use anyone, at any time, to speak His truth… and once the truth is set forth, like a light, it can not be put out!

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

THREE TRUTHS ABOUT THE TRUTH

THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL CAN BE DENIED BUT IT CAN NEVER BE CANCELED

Pauls continues… “18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.

Cancel Culture - the practice or tendency of engaging in social ostracizing a person, subject, or brand from in the public arena through social pressure. Cancel culture often refers to the mass withdrawal of support from public figures or celebrities who have done things that aren't socially accepted today.

Three Reasons Why Cancel Culture Is Unhealthy
- It’s justice by mob rule
- It suppresses freedom of speech
- In the court of public opinion, you are guilty until proven innocent

Herod was the first to try and cancel Jesus

Matthew 2:1–18 (ESV)
The Visit of the Wise Men
2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him…

Jesus was a threat
- To His Territory
- To His Title
- To His Throne

It's human nature to cancel what offends us

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL CAN BE TEMPORARILY IGNORED BUT IT CAN NOT BE ETERNALLY MISSED

Paul continues about the power of the gospel… 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

When we encounter truth we have two choices

1) We can Delight in truth
2) We can Deny the truth

One leads to oppression
The other leads to freedom

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
(Jn 8:31–32)

THE PERFECT TRUTH OF HIS GOSPEL IS REVEALED THROUGH IMPERFECT VESSELS

Can God communicate truth through an atheist or an unbelieving Jewish man?

49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. 50 Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.” 51 He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, 52
(Jn 11:49–52).

God uses imperfect people to communicate a perfect message

2 cor 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

Remember: It’s not the wrapping paper that gives the gift its value, it is what is inside the paper that makes it priceless

Say it: I am just the wrapping paper!
