REMOVING THE BLOOD CURSE
Genesis 49:9 (MSG)
You're a lion's cub, Judah, home fresh from the kill, my son. Look at him, crouched like a lion, king of beasts; who dares mess with him?

1. Judah was the fourth son of Jacob

a. through Leah

b. and the head of one of the 12 tribes of Israel

Genesis 49:10 (MSG)
The scepter shall not leave Judah; he'll keep a firm grip on the command staff Until the ultimate ruler comes and the nations obey him.

2. This prophecy states that the Messiah will come from
his bloodline.

Ruth 4:22 (MSG)
Obed had Jesse, and Jesse had David.

3. David descended from this bloodline as well.

4. But then we have a problem.

Jeremiah 22:30 (NLT)
This is what the LORD says: ‘Let the record show that this man Jehoiachin was childless. He is a failure, for none of his children will succeed him on the throne of David to rule over Judah.’

5. Also known as Jehoiachin.

a. descended from David’s bloodline

b. he became king at 18 yrs.

c. did evil in God’s eyes

6. He was given a blood curse from God.

a. he had no children

b. meaning David’s prophecy looked as if it was
going to fail

7. Did God miss it?

8. This curse created a dead-end for God's promise.

9. Because the prophecy stated:

a. the Messiah had to come from David’s the royal
bloodline

b. but now there was a "blood curse" on that very line of descent

c. satan was celebrating now

d but God turned to His angels...

e. saying, “Watch this one!"

Genesis 3:15 (MSG)
15 I'm declaring war between you and the Woman, between your offspring and hers. He'll wound your head, you'll wound his heel."

10. God had declared war on the devil.

11. The "Seed of the Woman" is a prophetic title of the
Messiah.

12. This biological contradiction is the first clue

a. of the virgin birth

b. because man gives the seed

Isaiah 7:14 (KJV)
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

13. That’s why we say God is a Way Maker.

a. especially when there is no way

Micah 5:2 (NLT)
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.

14. This Ruler will come from Bethlehem.

a. but why Bethlehem

Micah 5:2 (NLT)
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.

15. Bethlehem links the bloodline of David to Bethlehem.

16. So what did God do to make a way?

Matthew 1:1-17 – Matthew traces the legal bloodline

a. from Abraham through David

b. then through Solomon, David’s son though
Bathsheba

c. then from Solomon to Joseph

d. husband to Mary

e. the legal earthly father of Jesus
17. Problem not solved yet!

Luke 3:23-38 - Luke traces the bloodline

a. from Adam through to David

b. it is identical to Matthew's

18. But then after David,

a. Luke departs from the path taken by Matthew

b. and traces the family tree through another son of
David

c. the second surviving son of Bathsheba, Nathan

d. from Nathan he traces the bloodline down
through Heli

e. the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus

19. But that still doesn’t solve the problem.

20. Enter Zelophehad!

Numbers 27:2 – Zelophehad had no sons

a. only daughters

b. they asked Moses for an inheritance as well

c. God granted their requests
d. they entered the land after Joshua replaced Moses

21. So?

22. Remember Heli, Mary’s dad?

a. he had no sons either

b. so, she was entitled to the same rights of a blood-born son

c. because of what Zelophed’s daughters had done

23. Mary married within the tribe of Judah through
Joseph

24. So...

25. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary

a. of the house and lineage of David

26. This gave her a legal title to the bloodline

a. but without the blood curse of Jeconiah

27. When we get saved,

a. God removes the blood curse on our lives

Galatians 4:4-5 (NLT)
But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.

28. And we are now part of the family of God.

a. with all rights and benefits
