Command (vs. 4-5a)

The 2nd command, like every other command, builds on the foundation of the 1st commandment! The 1st commandment has already instructed Israel and us that we should love, worship, trust, and obey Him as God alone! The 2nd command pushes past that and takes the next step. Not only must the Lord alone be worshipped, but He must be worshipped correctly and in the right way!
Reason (vs. 5b-6)
God graciously explains the REASON behind this commandment in the 2nd half of our verses.
IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:
1) We already have the image of God!
Jesus is the image of the invisible God, but we must see Him with eyes of faith! We must worship Him in spirit and in truth! That is what this second commandment is all about. As you learn to do this, you come to know Him, love Him, and see Him far more clearly than you ever thought possible!
IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:
2) Listen for the Word instead of looking for images.
Our worship and our entire lives must be Word-centered! God prescribed that His people be converted, fed, nourished, and sanctified through the reading and preaching of His Word, not the use of images and visuals!
IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:
3) Prayerfully consider your use of religious images.
Think about, pray about, and evaluate your heart and life in light of the second commandment. Repent and change those things which need to be changed so that you can hear the Word of God and see Jesus in all of His glory with eyes of faith!
