OVERFLOW Part 1: More Blessed Than We Imagine or Deserve
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
(Psalm 23:5)
1. God’s heart is to _____________________.
And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
(Genesis 12:3)
Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
(Matthew 7:9-11)
Two faulty Christian perspectives of God’s blessings:
· Poverty Mindset
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
(1 Timothy 6:17)
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
(James 1:16-17)
· Prosperity Mindset
…but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
(Mark 4:19)
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
(Matthew 6:24)
2. Blessings come in a _____________________ .
And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
(Deuteronomy 28:1-6)
In all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy.
(2 Corinthians 7:4)
3.The best position for _____________________ blessings is to _____________________ for past blessings.
Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness.
(Psalm 145:2-6)
4. You are blessed to _____________________ .
Then Joseph brought in Jacob his father and stood him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh…. And Jacob blessed Pharaoh and went out from the presence of Pharaoh.
(Genesis 47:7-10)
And as you have been a byword of cursing among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing.
Zechariah 8:13
