Lust | That Used To Be Me

Lust | That Used To Be Me

All of us have a side to us that doesn't look good in the mirror. I'm not talking about our physical appearance. You have to look past the reflection and into your heart and thoughts. During these six weeks, we will be looking at how to overcome those private battles that we know exist. We will be looking at key people in the bible that also had the same struggles. You will be encouraged that we have a God who knows how to heal and transform. God wants you to know the power of His Holy Spirit at a personal level. Then, you can say with confidence, "That used to be me."

These volunteers want to use their God-given gifts to love on you. When you give them an opportunity, it brings joy to their hearts. It's a way they can serve God. So, let us know if you have anything and we'll talk about next steps. Please email Andy Fish at fixit@thorncreek.church.

7 Habits of a Christ-Driven Life | Wednesdays | 6:30pm | What does living a "Christ-Driven Life" really look like on a daily basis? Hear from a different speaker each week in this 7 week class. Men's Night | Tuesday, October 12 | 7:00pm | This is a night just for men. There will be worship, an encouraging word, group discussion, and coffee! Plan for 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

Bring A Friend Weekend | October 16 and 17 | What is a Friends Weekend? We want to encourage you to prayerfully invite someone to ThornCreek Church for a worship service on this weekend! Pastor Ruben will be preaching about an Old Testament character named Balaam. The message will be about pleasing God more than pleasing people. We are planning a great worship set, testimony, and a great fun environment.
So, start praying now. Tell them to meet you at ThornCreek Church 15 minutes before service begins. Make sure they get their kids checked in early, get some of our good coffee, and are sitting in the Worship Center before the service begins. This way they experience a full worship experience at ThornCreek! Please make a special effort to step out of your comfort zone, and extend an invite to someone. Let's fill every row on Friends Weekend!

TC Kids (Birth - 5th Grade)

ThornCreek Kids Ministry - Available in all services. Children's Church has been re-opened on Saturday nights. This means Saturday will be fully staffed like Sunday mornings. (This is the goal). We're also starting a brand new curriculum called, "Orange" this weekend. So, if you are a parent of a child (Birth to 5th Grade), COME EARLY to church on Saturday or Sunday, check in your child, and be in service before the first song starts! It's going to be great.

ThornCreek Kids Ministry strives to walk alongside and equip parents to be spiritual leaders in their children’s lives. Our hope and prayer is that with a strong faith foundation, kids will make the decision to continue growing as Christians, and become Christ-like disciples.

Our age-level classes allow us to reach children at their developmental level, so that by God’s grace they will be able to comprehend to the best of their ability, the topics we are covering in church!

All Ministry Partners (over the age of 18) have passed background checks, and all Bridge Team members (6th-12th graders) are supervised by adults.

TC Students (6th - 12th Grade)

ThornCreek Student Ministries mission is to create a safe place for students to encounter Jesus, ask questions, process struggles and to experience the love of God while ultimately integrating them into the body and mission of Jesus Christ.

Lust:
An intense or unrestrained sexual craving, or an overwhelming desire or craving
The porn industry’s annual revenue is more than the NFL, NBA, and MLB combined. It is also more than the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC.
The research studies, primarily by the Barna Group and Covenant Eyes…
- 47% of families in the United States reported that pornography is a problem in their home.
- Pornography use increases the marital infidelity rate by more than 300%.
- 11 is the average age that a child is first exposed to porn, and 94% of children will see porn by the age of 14.
- 68% of church-going men and over 50% of pastors view porn on a regular basis.
- 76% of young Christian adults, ages 18-24 years, actively search for porn.
- 55% of married men and 25% of married women say they watch porn at least once a month.
- One-third of porn viewers are women.
Men's Night
Tuesday, October 12
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
A natural God-given sexual drive was contaminated by sin, and it became a desire called lust.
Lust is a self-centered desire, which focuses on pleasing oneself.
"Pornography physically changes your brain."
- Norman Doidge
"Pornography can be addictive."
- Pamela Paul
What you stare at can determine who you become.
What you stare at will determine your imagination.
What you imagine will determine your action.
A natural desire can become sin when you allow it to drag you away from God's plan for your life.
Three ways to overcome lust:
1. Don't go down the wrong street.
2. Be self-aware.
3. Don't be naive.
"Due to neuroplasticity, damage to the brain can be undone when someone gets away from unhealthy behaviors."
- Angres, D. H.
