The women will be reading the book, Confessions of a Prayer Slacker. The men will be studying Paul's epistle to the Galatians.
For the men's study of Galatians, Randy Jasper will be leading the group and they will be using the SOAP Devotional Method. Here is a short explanation of this method.
The S.O.A.P. method can be use with any Bible reading plan to help you process what you are reading. Use the S.O.A.P. method and a journal to connect with God daily.
Scripture: Write out a section of Scripture. Circle, underline, and highlight what stands out to you.
Observation: Make simple notes of your observations. What is happening in the verses you're reading? Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? Where is it taking place?
Application: Make God's word personal in your life. Ask, "What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my own life? Is there an action I need to take?"
Prayer: One way God speaks to us is through His word. Prayer is our opportunity to respond to God and keep a two-way conversation going. Take time to tell Him what you are thinking about the Scripture you just read. You can write out your prayer if you like. Confess your heart to him. Thank Him and ask Him for what you need.

1 Samuel 8:6-7
6 When they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” Samuel considered their demand wrong, so he prayed to the Lord. 7 But the Lord told him, “Listen to the people and everything they say to you. They have not rejected you; they have rejected me as their king.
1 Samuel 16:1-13
1 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem because I have selected for myself a king from his sons.”
2 Samuel asked, “How can I go? Saul will hear about it and kill me!”
The Lord answered, “Take a young cow with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will let you know what you are to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate to you.”
4 Samuel did what the Lord directed and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled and asked, “Do you come in peace?”
5 “In peace,” he replied. “I’ve come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and said, “Certainly the Lord’s anointed one is here before him.”
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. Humans do not see what the Lord sees, for humans see what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.”
8 Jesse called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel. “The Lord hasn’t chosen this one either,” Samuel said. 9 Then Jesse presented Shammah, but Samuel said, “The Lord hasn’t chosen this one either.” 10 After Jesse presented seven of his sons to him, Samuel told Jesse, “The Lord hasn’t chosen any of these.” 11 Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?”
“There is still the youngest,” he answered, “but right now he’s tending the sheep.” Samuel told Jesse, “Send for him. We won’t sit down to eat until he gets here.” 12 So Jesse sent for him. He had beautiful eyes and a healthy, handsome appearance.
Then the Lord said, “Anoint him, for he is the one.” 13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully on David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.
1 Kings 2:8-9
8 “Keep an eye on Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim who is with you. He uttered malicious curses against me the day I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan River, and I swore to him by the Lord, ‘I will never kill you with the sword.’ 9 So don’t let him go unpunished, for you are a wise man. You know how to deal with him to bring his gray head down to Sheol with blood.”
To discern God's movement, we have to learn to trust less in our eyes and more in our ears.
Psalm 51:10-15
10 God, create a clean heart for meand renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not banish me from your presenceor take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore the joy of your salvation to me,and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit.
13 Then I will teach the rebellious your ways, and sinners will return to you.
14 Save me from the guilt of bloodshed, God—God of my salvation—and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
