Details to notice:
The mighty angel comes down from heaven
Clothed with a cloud and a rainbow is on His head
His face is like the sun
His feet like pillars of fire
He has a little book open in his hand
His right foot is on the sea
His left foot is on the land
His voice has the “volume” of a lion
His voice sounds like seven thunders
Verse links:
“Clothed with a cloud”
Rev. 1:7 “Behold He is coming with clouds…”
(Both transfiguration Gospel accounts [Matthew and Mark] describe Jesus as being surrounded by a cloud- Mark 9:7; Matt. 17:5)
“Wherever clouds are connected with glorious manifestations, there we find the presence of Divinity.” –Joseph Seiss
“A rainbow on His head”
Rev. 4:3 “...and there was a rainbow around the throne”
“Face like the sun”
Matt. 17:2 “He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun…”
Rev. 1:16 “... and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.”
“Feel like pillars of fire”
Rev. 1:15 “His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace…”
· His right foot is on the sea
· His left foot is on the land
The posture of this angel is also something of note, portraying power and possession. Elsewhere in scripture we see it pictured that to place one’s foot on a place is to take possession of that place.
“24 Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours.”
–Deut. 11:24
“3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.” –Joshua 1:3
This mighty angel intends to take ownership and exercise authority over the whole earth (land and sea)
*also notice his feet are “on the see” who else in Scripture walks on water?
“A loud voice like a lion”
Rev. 5:5 “Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah…”
“The Lord will roar from on high,
and from his holy habitation utter his voice;
he will roar mightily against his fold,
and shout, like those who tread grapes,
against all the inhabitants of the earth.
31
The clamor will resound to the ends of the earth,
for the Lord has an indictment against the nations;
he is entering into judgment with all flesh,
and the wicked he will put to the sword,
declares the Lord.”
–Jeremiah 25:30-31 (ESV)
“When He cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices.”
Rev. 4:5 “from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices.”
“18 Now when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid[d] and trembled, and they stood far off”–Ex. 20:18

Mysteries in Scripture:
The ultimate conversion of the Jewish people is called a mystery
(Romans 11:25)
· God’s purpose for the church is called a mystery
(Ephesians 3:3-11)
· The bringing in of the fullness of the Gentiles is called a mystery
(Romans 11:25)
· The living presence of Jesus in the believer is called the mystery of God (Colossians 1:27-2:3)
· The gospel itself is called the mystery of Christ
(Colossians 4:3)

A letter to the editor of a Newspaper
"Dear Sir:
I notice that ministers seem to set a great deal of importance on their sermons and spend a great deal of time in preparing them. I have been attending services quite regularly for the past thirty years and during that time, if I estimate correctly, I have listened to no less than 3,000 sermons, but, to my consternation, I discover I cannot remember a single one of them. I wonder if a minister's time might be more profitably spent on something else?
Sincerely (a discontented church goer)
"That letter triggered an avalanche of angry responses for weeks. Sermons were castigated and defended, but eventually a single letter closed the debate:
"Dear Sir:
I have been married for 30 years, during that time I have eaten 32,580 meals — mostly of my wife's cooking. Suddenly, I have discovered that I cannot remember the menu of a single meal. And yet, I have received nourishment from every single one of them. I have the distinct impression that without them, I would have starved to death long ago...
Sincerely...."

QUOTES:
“Clearly this angel has come from the very presence of God, and he has great might and authority.” –William Barclay
“The command was absolute, and the holy apostle obeyed it. What the seven thunders said, is therefore unwritten and unknown, and must remain unknown, till, amid the ongoings of the judgment as here foreshown, they shall answer the great voice of the mighty angel. And, until then, it is enough, and best, that the children of men should know no more upon this point than that there are such thunders… and that those voices in all their terrific majesty, will be heard when the time comes.” –Joseph Seiss
“In Biblical vocabulary, a mystery isn’t something no one knows. A mystery is something no one could know unless it was revealed to him. If you could know it by intuition or personal investigation, it isn’t a mystery, because mysteries must be revealed. Therefore, something can be known and still be a mystery in the Biblical sense.” –David Guzik
“In the Bible, a mystery is a “sacred secret,” a truth hidden to those outside but revealed to God’s people by His Word (Matt. 13:10–12).” –Warren Wiersbe
“Of course, the Christian knows that God did “do something about it” at Calvary when Jesus Christ was made sin and experienced divine wrath for a sinful world. We also know that God is permitting evil to increase until the world is ripe for judgment (2 Thess. 2:7ff.; Rev. 14:14–20). Since God has already paid the price for sin, He is free to delay His judgment, and He cannot be accused of injustice or unconcern.” –Warren Wiersbe
“This figure of eating the book is familiar, and suggests the feeding of the soul on the Word of God.” –G. Campbell Morgan
“The directions that the angel gave to John (Rev. 10:8–11) should remind us of our responsibility to assimilate the Word of God and make it a part of the inner man. It was not enough for John to see the book or even know its contents and purpose. He had to receive it into his inner being.” –Warren Wiersbe
