Series Theme - Mission Ready. Citizens of the kingdom of heaven, because of Jesus’ delay in returning, live in the kingdom of this world to create glimpses into the kingdom of heaven to create open invitations into citizenship in the coming kingdom of Jesus.
Beatitudes reminder - The beatitudes are the path to eternal gladness of heart and soul. The word translated “blessed” could also be translated as happy or glad. The word “glad” really conveys what Jesus is teaching. This gladness is contentment of the soul that can include emotions but that goes beyond emotions and temporary circumstances. This gladness is the deep satisfaction for which our souls long. In the Beatitudes, Jesus reveals how to find soul satisfying gladness. This way to gladness is the way of becoming a citizen of the kingdom of heaven through faith in Jesus.
The sermon on the mount is a description of the way of life for a citizen of the coming kingdom of God. Citizens of the kingdom of heaven who are living in the kingdom of the world live their lives to create glimpses into the kingdom of heaven while offering open invitations to enter into the coming kingdom of Jesus.
