http://openbiblechristianministries.org/givingDavid Zahl explains that in our day and culture, “To be busy is to be valuable, desired, justified. It signals importance and, therefore, enoughness. Busy is not just how we are but who we are—or who we’d like to be.”
He goes on to say, “As tired as it makes us, busyness remains attractive because it does double duty, allowing us to feel like we’re advancing on the path of life while distracting su from other, less pleasant realities, like doubt and uncertainty and death. When we move rapid-fire from task to task we (theoretically) minimize the mental space available for painful feeling, at the same time accruing extra points in the enoughness column, whether they be material or emotional or both. So we stay busy to keep the rivers of affirmation and reward flowing in our direction. We are afraid they will stop if we are not generating the current.”

Jethro's Observation (vs. 13+14)
Jethro watched and observed Israel's leadership structure. He saw the burden it placed on Moses and how the people were waiting and waiting and waiting for their case and for justice to be administered. So, he raised an important question, which gently challenged and caused Moses to rethink the way He was ruling Israel.

Moses' Response (vs. 15+16)
Moses answers his father-in-law’s question. He explains that his reasoning is not just, “this is what Pharaoh did” or some other not very well thought out plan. Instead, there was thought and reasoning behind it, and it was a spiritual reason!

Jethro's Advice (vs. 17-23)
Jethro wasn’t one of those people who just tells you a problem and offers no help in solving it. Instead, he gives Moses advice!

Moses' Action (vs. 24-27)
Moses prayed and talked to God about this plan, it received God’s approval, and Moses took action! He followed the advice of his father-in-law, Jethro! He did everything that Jethro suggested him to do!

IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:
1) We have a better Moses!
We must stop trying to constantly prove ourselves and gain our righteousness and “enoughness” through our busyness, work, and achievements. Instead, we must trust Jesus to provide for us what only He - our perfect Prophet, Priest, and King can provide for us.

IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:
2) Preparation for living God’s Way.
The Law is not what Israel did to make themselves worth saving. It was not meant to busy and burden them in earning or keeping their status as God's people. Instead, it is the proper response to God’s salvation! It is teaching and training Israel and us to live God’s way!

IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:
3) We are all members of the Body of Christ.
We are the body of Christ. Each and every member is important and needed. None of us can do everything, but all of us can do something! Look around you and see the ways God is caring for you through others, and thank the Lord and thank Him for them. Then find your place in serving God and others!
