That was their preconceived conclusion. To the Jews there was only one solution. The Law forbade working on the Sabbath. Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. Therefore, Jesus was a sinner and can have nothing to do with God. So the man was commanded to give glory to God for his healing.

2. Simple sight
Here is one of the greatest models of how to bear a witness as a believer. Many people are afraid to say anything about the Lord because they think they will be dragged into a theological argument that will be over their heads. But witness is simply doing what this man did -- saying what Jesus did for you, that is all. "Once I was blind, now I can see" -- that is what a witness is. You are the world's greatest authority on what happened to you.

3. Mistaken sight
The Pharisees are on the attack. They are not listening for answers. They are simply attacking the man and his experience with Jesus. But that is how we are like, aren’t we? When someone gets too close to the truth that we do not like, we are quick to anger and lash out at the person. How many times have we used anger to get out of a situation? Our spouse asks us why we have done something, spent money, spoken with sarcasm or hurtful words. We know we are wrong. But our pride will not let us admit it. So we get angry and stomp out of the room — end of conversation, end of exposure.

4. Insightful sight
He has got them now. With this simple, logical argument he has pinned them to the wall. He tells them that their inability to decide whether Jesus is from God or not is ridiculous, given what Jesus has done.

5. Abusive sight
That is a reference to his blindness. That marked him in their eyes as being a sinner, already cursed of God. The conclusion that the disciples had drawn in the beginning of the chapter is the one that the Pharisees own as theirs. This is the ultimate slur on him. You are irredeemable garbage.

Implication for Life #1
Write down a short one minute testimony of what God has done for you. What is it that you know for certain. What is the blindness that you once had? How has that been turned to sight? What do you see clearly now?

Where do you see the Pharisee attitude in you? Believe the gospel. Be quick to admit when you are wrong, answer the hard questions, and by the grace of God see God change your heart.
