https://www.thesummitchurch.live/Our culture has a "more is better!" motto, and we all fall prey to that! Share a light hearted example of something you tend to over indulge in (chips and salsa, TV shows, double decker cheeseburgers, etc.).
What do you think King Soloman meant by the following piece of wisdom?
We all have the capacity to allow a healthy desire to become unhealthy. God tells us there are 3 enemies fighting against our desire to honor God. Discuss them with your group...
Our World: Our culture and marketing are designed to keep us discontent. How do you see this to be true? How does the following passage speak to this? (1 John 2:15-17 NLT)
Our Adversary: There is a spiritual reality at play. Discuss the following scripture and how it pertains to maintaining healthy desires.
Our Flesh: Our sinful nature takes a sincere desire and distorts it. (James 1:14 NLT)
But God renews our desires! (See next verse. ;)
Discuss the following action steps and how you will apply them.
Know your "triggers". Name and replace your triggers for unhealthy desires and replace them with healthy options.
Revealing your feeling is the beginning of healing. Find someone you trust to confide in!
Identify the lie. What is the lie we are believing when we engage in unhealthy desires? Choose to replace it with God's truth!
Living for God's pleasure fulfills our desires. Close with the following scripture. Are you willing to allow God to lead you?
