Sermon Notes
Are there some people that you don't want to see rescued?
1. Jonah only saw their sin, but the Lord saw what's within
- The Lord saw their sin
- The Lord saw their hearts of repentance
- The Lord saw us in our sin and still came to our rescue
- Do we not want to see Him do the same for sinners among us?

2. Jonah looked at the temporary, but the Lord saw the eternal
- Jonah was only focused on the here and now (their sin and his hatred)
- Are there people in our lives that we don't want the Lord to forgive?
- The Lord is focused on eternity.
- Because of who He is (vs. 2 You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm), He put in place a rescue plan to seek and save the lost (Luke19:10).
- There are only 2 categories that will last for all eternity (the lost and the saved). Which category are you in?

3. Jonah looked with pride, but the Lord saw with pity
- Jonah failed to see all that the Lord had done for him
- Jonah looked proudly at his own life compared to those sinners. In doing so, he became even worse than the sinners he judged
- The Lord saw them with pity because He knew what people were like apart from Him
- The Lord is the One who labored, made them grow and sees them perishing
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Jonah had a calling on his life
- The first time he ran from God's calling
- The second time he responded in obedience but his heart wasn't in the right place
- We're not sure how he responded the third time. The story simply ends with a God who rescues...
