"It has been said by someone that the proper study of mankind is man. I will not oppose the idea, but I believe it is equally true that the proper study of God’s elect, is God; the proper study of the Christian is the Godhead. The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of the child of God is the name, the nature and the person, the works, the doings and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father." Charles Spurgeon
A.W. Tozer stated this in the first chapter of The Knowledge of The Holy (Why We Must Think Rightly About God): “The history of mankind will probably show that no people has ever risen above its religion, and man’s spiritual history will positively demonstrate that no religion has ever great than its idea of God.”
1. It is a very fearful thing to be confronted by the holy, holy, holy God. (Vv. 1-5a)
2. We are confronted with our depravity/sinfulness. (V. 5b)
J.D. Greear – Above All
I want my kids and grandkids to grow up in a country where God is moving in his church. But that won’t happen if we turn a blind eye to sin.
Even those of us who aren’t guilty of public moral scandals have to acknowledge that evangelicals have lost a lot of moral authority in recent years because of apparent willingness to wink at sin when it serves our interests.
Sometimes we’ve been willing to cover up to minimize abuse to protect our reputation, even when doing so endangers other victims. Other examples can be found in our recent approaches to politics.

3. We are confronted with the pain of redemption and repentance. (Vv. 6-7)
4. We are offered a significant call to serve. (v. 8)
