Beth Am Messiah

Adonai Ki Tov
Beth Am Messiah's weekly 11 am EST Shabbat (Sabbath) service (message notes go online at 10 am EST). The Sabbath biblically begins at sundown on Friday evening until Saturday evening based on the time of when the day begins in Genesis 1. We welcome EVERYONE, Jew, and Gentile to join us in worshipping the God of Israel and His Messiah, our Lord, Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah! Our services begin at 11 am on Saturdays. Beth Am Messiah (The House of Messiah's People) is a Messianic Congregation in the hub of the Jewish community of Rockland County, NY. We are an embracing group of Jewish and non-Jewish followers of Yeshua who unapologetically stand for the exaltation of the Messiah to Israel and the Nations. Our vision is for Jews to come back to their House...the Temple of God, who is Yeshua the Messiah, and for those of the Nations to be one with Israel through Yeshua.

To your children, and shall talk of them, when you sit in your house,

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Intro: We spend so much time seeing the wickedness of man, hardships of the time, evil in the world, every so often we need to just look at God to be refreshed. If you look at the world too long you will get depressed, discouraged, fearful. If you look at the ekklesia/church, ministry, ministry leaders you will get depressed, cynical, skeptical. The mission is to go out, we also need to know how to go into God's goodness…it’s not retreating, it’s refreshing.
- The main focus of the Psalm is God’s mercy throughout but the basis for God’s mercy is His goodness.
TOV - Hebrew, "good"
Hodu L'Adonai ki tov, ki l'olam chasdo.
(Give thanks to the LORD for He is good and His mercy endures forever.)
I. God is good
II. Everything God does is good
III. God’s ways are good
I. God is good
- God is a good father, always wants the best and has the best intended for His children (see also Matt.7:11; James.1:17)
- We tend to judge or value something as good in relation to us, based on our estimation of goodness or our value system.
- God reveals Himself to be beyond our assumption of who we think He is because He’s good beyond our conception of what good is.
- Creation is to point to God who is Good and the determiner of what is good for all creation.
- The sum of all that God has created is good but God is the sum of all that is good even beyond creation because He existed before it. He is the originator and final standard of all that is good.
- If God’s goodness depended on my approval, then my standard of good would be the standard.
- Everything He does is worthy even if you don’t approve of it but this is where trust comes in.
II. Everything God does is good
God can do nothing less than good, nothing less than absolute best.
- He works all things for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.[1] Everything He does for the believer is good.[2]
[1] Rom.8:28.
[2] Ps.84:11.
The creation narrative utilizes "tov" differently from after the fall when "good" of creation is transformed by the trangression that leads to the release of all the potential of good to go to the extreme which is actually bad!
The Functionality of what is GOOD is transformed to Morality or MORE-ality after the Fall. Before the Fall man had everything at its full capacity working in conjunction with other created components. Everything then begins to operate out of its God-ordained limits as man violates the prohibition to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and learns to manipulate creation to get more of what he wants.
MORE-REALITY in the sense of exploiting what God created to be good.
What does this tell us?
God being good means that God is not just a being of power, but He is one of restraint. He knows how to use His power to connect with you so you can be who He has called you to be.
- His goodness leads us to repentance/turning
- He leads us back to the right tree because we now have access back to that tree through Yeshua.
III. God’s ways are good
If one man lost it all for everyone, one man could win it all back for everyone
Matt.7:16 - Good tree bears good fruit
1. Estimation of man's goodness
2. Estimation of man's "good" works
It’s not just attaining to a standard of goodness
Because the standard of God’s goodness is a whole different tree to eat from.
