In this passage of God’s Word, we see Jesus’ disciples seeing a need of the people who are listening to Jesus. Instead of taking the disciples’ recommendation, Jesus tells them to fulfill the need. The disciples obviously are unable to, but by giving what they do have to Jesus and by listening to His instructions, the need is met abundantly. By taking a look at this passage of God’s Word, we can also see what we are to do when we see a need:
1. Think of possible solutions with what God has already given to you
Luke 9:12-13, Matt. 25:20-21, 1 Cor. 4:2
2. Allow God to bless and multiply what you already have
Luke 9:16, Mark 12:41-44, Rom. 12:1, Matt. 22:37, Mal. 3:10, Eph. 3:20-21
3. Be faithful with what God tells you to do
Luke 9:14, 1 Sam. 12:24, Prov. 3:5, Heb. 10:23, 2 Pet. 1:10-11, 1 Cor. 7:17
Reflection Questions

1. As we talked about the disciples seeing the need of the crowd, did God bring to your mind any needs that you see around you? If so, what has been your attitude towards that need? If not, pray and ask God to reveal a need that is around you.
2. The disciples thought about possible solutions to the need of the crowd. Evaluate the need that you feel called to and think of possible solutions with what you currently have. Is it possible that God has already given you what you need to meet this need?
3. The disciples gave what they had to Jesus and He blessed and multiplied it. How can you give God what you already have and allow Him to bless and multiply it?
4. Jesus told His disciples to spilt the crowd into small groups. They could have had a bad attitude towards His command, thinking “what good is that going to do,” instead they were faithful to do what Jesus told them to do. How can you be faithful to what God calls you to do, even if it doesn’t make sense?
