Wisdom is the art of living skillfully in whatever actual conditions we find ourselves in. - Eugene Peterson
The TRUTH for all of us coming into this world:
WISDOM IS NOT AUTOMATIC - BUT IT CAN BE ACQUIRED.

Solomon is said to have written 3000 proverbs, and those contained in this book of Proverbs are a selection from these. (see1 Kings 4:29-34)

BACKSTORY:
In 1 Kings 3; there's a story about Solomon. God appeared to him in a dream and said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you." Solomon said, "Give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people, and to distinguish between right and wrong."

In other words, Solomon asked for wisdom.

The Scriptures show us, God was pleased with Solomon's request and said, "Since you have asked for wisdom and not for a long life or wealth or power over your enemies, I will give you what you asked for; plus, I will give you what you didn't ask for..."

So God gave Solomon wisdom, and he passed that wisdom on to us in the book of Proverbs.
4 chairs described in Proverbs - we all will sit in one; choose carefully!!

-Simple
-Fool
-Mocker
-Wise
The SIMPLE person is CLUELESS, the FOOL is CARELESS, the MOCKER is CRITICAL.
Then there are the WISE.

Question: (in which of the 4 seats)
WHERE ARE YOU SITTING? WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SIT?

YOU AND I — WILL EACH CONTROL WHAT SEAT WE’RE IN
Key takeaway from the book of Proverbs:

Proverbs 9:10-12
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
Wisdom will multiply your days
and add years to your life.
If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit.
If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.

Truth: WISDOM BLESSES YOUR LIFE LIKE NOTHING ELSE CAN!
So we’re told to spend our lives searching for it, seeking after wisdom — like treasure!!
*listen to the words of Solomon - telling us to hunt for wisdom.

Proverbs 2:1-7
My child, listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
Wisdom is not automatic - but it can be acquired!

Wisdom — series takeaway:
Wisdom is the ability to do the right, the good and the godly thing in the moment you’re in.
We start on the path to wisdom by putting God first.

The wisest thing we'll ever do is give God top priority in our lives - it’s the place he deserves in our lives.

When we say, "put God first", I mean specifically that we choose Jesus to be the Lord and Leader of our life. That ultimately is where the path to godly wisdom begins.

Proverbs 8 - really personifies Jesus as the wisdom of God
-Wisdom (Jesus) who we can know and be known by!
-Wisdom (Jesus) that can not only rescue us - but lead us forward
