STRATEGIC PRAYERS FOR A NEW GENERATION JUNE 6, 2021


SCRIPTURE
“Give Your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son. Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly. May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful. Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors. May they fear you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains in the sky. Yes, forever! May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth. May all the godly flourish during his reign. May there be abundant prosperity until the moon is no more. May he reign from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. Desert nomads will bow before him; his enemies will fall before him in the dust. The western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands will bring him tribute. The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts. All kings will bow before him, and all nations will serve him. He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him. Long live the king! May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May the people always pray for him and bless him all day long. May there be abundant grain throughout the land, flourishing even on the hilltops. May the fruit trees flourish like the trees of Lebanon, may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise. Praise the Lord God, the God is Israel, who alone does such wonderful things. Praise His glorious name forever! Give my son Solomon the wholehearted desire to obey all your commands, laws, and decrees, and to do everything necessary to build this Temple, for which I have made these preparations. 1 Chronicles 29:19, NLT


A WHOLE NEW WORLD
Kids may pick up things we don’t intend for them to have. We must be vigilant!

Western culture has changed drastically over the past 20 years.

A shift in prayer is necessary! It doesn’t need to be radical, just intentional.

David set up Solomon for physical success but did not neglect to pray for him.


SPIRITUALLY
David prays for Solomon to be fully devoted to the Lord, to obey Scripture, to advance God’s kingdom, to walk in purity, to live righteously, to have a prayer covering, & to be blessed by God.

1/ I am asking God to save their souls.

2/ I am asking God to give them a genuine love for Him & His Word.

3/ I am asking God to fill them with the Holy Spirit.

4/ I am asking God to anoint them to fulfill the purposes of God in their generation.

5/ I am asking God to keep them pure.

“God, cause my children to be repulsed by all forms of perversion.”

Julian of Norwich explained intercession by saying: “I look at God, I look at you, and I keep looking at God.”


RELATIONALLY
David prays for Solomon to have right relationship with his people, his allies, & his enemies.

1/ I am asking God to make them good friends, spouses, & leaders.

2/ I am asking God to “rip out” wrong relationships.

3/ I am asking God to implant right relationships.

There is a difference between “Christian” friends & godly friends.

4/ I am asking God to never allow their enemies to prosper.

5/ I am asking God to give them a heart for the marginalized.

6/ I am asking God to give them favor with all people.


EMOTIONALLY
David prays for Solomon to be emotionally balanced.

1/ I am asking God to make them whole emotionally.

We do not need to feed trauma but acknowledge it & assist in healing it.


MENTALLY
David prays for Solomon to think rightly.

1/ I am asking God to give them a Biblical worldview.

Once people have been taught Scripture, Paul says:
Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies to clever they sound like the truth. Ephesians 4:14, NLT

2/ I am asking God to give them the ability to discern right from wrong.

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. Colossians 2:8, NLT


PHYSICALLY
David prays for Solomon to live in good health.

1/ I am asking God to protect them.

2/ I am asking God to give them long & full lives.


DIRECTIONALLY
David prays for Solomon to make wise decisions, to carry influence, to prosper financially, to have favor, & to leave a legacy.

1/ I am asking God to give them a purposeful calling to embrace.

2/ I am asking God to give them favor & influence at work.

3/ I am asking God to give them Heaven’s wisdom.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5, NIV

4/ I am asking God to give them prosperity.

5/ I am asking God to give them a legacy.

David is not only praying for his king, but for his son. And he knows the real power of Solomon’s success is found in the presence of God!

MOTIVES MATTER
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives… James 4:3

Herod’s wife is a prime example of vicariously living through a child.

Inside every child is the craving for parental blessing.
