In this passage of God’s Word, we see Jesus’ disciples in the midst of a literal storm. Out on the lake they encounter a treacherous storm, and with Jesus sleeping, they think they’ve met their demise. They awake Jesus to have Him quickly question their faith. By taking a look at this story we can see how the disciples made it through this literal storm, and how we can make it through any storm, literal or figurative, in our lives as well.
1. Don’t rush to your own conclusions, instead trust in what God has already said
Luke 8:22-24, Prov. 3:5, Jer. 17:9, Ps. 9:10, Rom. 8:28
2. Realize that storms can be used to bring us into a better relationship with God
Luke 8:25, Rom. 5:3-5, James 1:2-4
3. Always go to God
Luke 8:24, Matt. 6:33, 1 Chron. 16:11, Jer. 29:13
Reflection Questions

1. Be honest with yourself: If you were one of the disciples in the boat during this storm, how would you have reacted?
2. How quick are you to rush to your own conclusions? Why do you think that is? How could you rely on what God has already said better?
3. Reflect on the biggest “storm” of your life. What happened? What was the outcome? How did that affect your relationship with the Lord? Evaluate yourself on how you reacted to that storm. How will you react differently if a similar storm comes again? Who can keep you accountable to that?
