When Male and Female Pronouns Don't Fit
The topic of gender identity has taken our world by storm. It especially affects the younger generation, who has seen a meteoric rise in trans-labels. State laws and recent executive moves have helped cement transgender identity into everyday life. So how should Christians respond? Well, simply put, with compassion and conviction. This sermon defines terms, outlines social implications, and looks at Genesis and Jesus to reaffirm the good, orderly, essential creation of male and female. It also accounts for gender identities that don't fit. Four biblical insights and Christians postures conclude the message.

Real losses for the younger generation
Real losses for Women's Rights
Real losses for parents and institutions.
Real losses for the larger public.
Of the losses mentioned above, which do you see as being most overstated? Which do you see as being most problematic?
What does the Genesis 1-2 creation account say about gender? What does it NOT say?
What does Jesus affirm about Genesis 1-2? What does he NOT say?
What do Romans 1 and Matthew 19:11-12 suggest about the good, orderly, and essential male-female binary?
God created a good, orderly, and essential male-female binary who bear his image.
The Bible assumes a binary throughout, reinforced through the household codes.
The Bible grants equal dignity to male and female, whose roles may change over time.
Genesis 3, Romans 1-3, and Jesus's teaching about eunuchs make room for those who do not fit the good, orderly, essential male-female binary but still bear God's image.
Which of these insights do you find most helpful?
Which of these insights do you question? Why?
What other Scriptures would you cite?
We should deconstruct bad stereotypes.
We should reconstruct a good view of the body.
We should locate human identity in the imago Dei.
We should show compassion to the non-conforming.
Write out your theology of the body. What does the Bible affirm about it?
Write out your male-female stereotypes. Which are bad? Good?
Pray through your identity in Christ.
Pray for a non-conforming person you know.
