Is Jesus united with the somebody's or the nobody's?
Our opinion of ourselves affects our conduct and relationship with others.
To sum up, then, truly Christian relationships are governed not by rivalry but by service. The correct attitude to other people is not ‘I’m better than you and I’ll prove it’, nor ‘You’re better than I and I resent it’, but ‘You are a person of importance in your own right (because God made you in His own image and Christ died for you) and it is my joy and privilege to serve you’ -- Stott, J. R. W.
If we think of ourselves more highly than we ought we most likely think of others more lowly than we ought.
Christians will be overtaken by sin. The question is how we respond to them and they to us.
Overtaken means this is not deliberate, rebellious or habitual sin.
The goal is for the spiritual to restore them with gentleness.
Those that are keeping in step with the Spirit. Notice its to be done in a gentle spirit. This is fruit of the Spirit that works to develop a sweet spirit within us.
We will be tempted to respond in a self-righteous, harsh, vindictive, vengeful, angry, envious, provoking, factious, biting and devouring, gossiping fleshly spirit.
The assumption in this text is that we will have burdens.
We are designed to help carry one another's burdens. We are not designed to live in isolation.
God gave us emotions for good to help motivate behavior and connect deeply with God and others. Allows us to have empathy for others.
When we think too highly of ourselves we won't be inclined to carry other's burdens.
Thinking too highly of ourselves is deception. Thinking highly of others is spiritual perception.
If someone doesn't give love nobody has the love they so desperately need!
