Apocalypse: from Greek apokálypsis "uncovering, disclosure, revelation," from apokalyp-, stem of apokalýptein "to uncover, disclose, reveal"
“The Unveiling”
“The Unveiling”
Prophecy: A prediction of Something to come (b.) a statement that says what is going to happen in the future
“It has been defined as a "miracle of knowledge, a declaration or description or representation of something future, beyond the power of human wisdom to foresee, discern, or conjecture.”
“It has been defined as a "miracle of knowledge, a declaration or description or representation of something future, beyond the power of human wisdom to foresee, discern, or conjecture.”
QUOTES:
“The word translated “revelation” simply means “unveiling.” It gives us our English word apocalypse which, unfortunately, is today a synonym for chaos and catastrophe. The verb simply means “to uncover, to reveal, to make manifest.” In this book, the Holy Spirit pulls back the curtain and gives us the privilege of seeing the glorified Christ in heaven and the fulfillment of His sovereign purposes in the world.” –Warren Wiersbe
“We must not conclude that John’s use of symbolism indicates that the events described are not real. They are real… we must be careful not to allow our imaginations to run wild. Biblical symbols are consistent with the whole of biblical revelation. Some symbols are explained (Rev. 1:20; 4:5; 5:8); others are understood from Old Testament symbolism (Rev. 2:7, 17; 4:7); and some symbols are not explained at all (the “white stone” in Rev. 2:17). Nearly 300 references to the Old Testament are found in Revelation! This means that we must anchor our interpretations to what God has already revealed, lest we misinterpret this important prophetic book.”
–Warren Wiersbe
“If we catch everything else, but miss Jesus in the book, we miss the Book of Revelation.” –David Guzik
“In the book of Revelation God decides to give us a glimpse into the future—by revelation. God declares the prophecy but we cannot divorce the prophecy from the person. There can be no fulfilled prophecy apart from Christ. John, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, pulls back the veil, lifts the curtain and allows us to see Jesus, exalted, glorified in heaven, fulfilling His eternal purposes for the future.” –Gino Geraci
‘The Revelation of Jesus Christ’ The whole Bible is so; for all revelation comes through Christ and all centres in him; and especially in these last days God has spoken to us by his Son, and concerning his Son…Our Lord Jesus is the great trustee of divine revelation; it is to him that we owe the knowledge we have of what we are to expect from God and what he expects from us.” –Matthew Henry
Shortly is the ancient Greek phrase en tachei, which means ” ‘quickly or suddenly coming to pass,’ indicating rapidity of execution after the beginning takes place. The idea is not that the event may occur soon, but that when it does, it will be sudden.” –John Walvoord
“a lovely title whose meaning did not cross over into our own culture. Perhaps through this phrase “beloved” John wants to highlight God’s love and how it has transformed his life, rather than his own personality or identity.” –William Barclay
“This blessing seems to be pronounced with a design to encourage us to study this book, and not be weary of looking into it upon account of the obscurity of many things in it; it will repay the labour of the careful and attentive reader.” –Matthew Henry
